Members Absent: Dr. Tony Diaz, Belinda Flores, Krista Ramirez
Health District Attendees: Dr. Dante Gonzalez, Diane Prime
Visitor(s)/Guests: Corey Carey
ROLL CALL: Dr. Sefcik called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m. Attendees introduced
themselves due to two new Board members.
REVIEW and POSSIBLE ACTION on JUNE MINUTES: The Board reviewed the June minutes.
ACTIONS TAKEN:
• Dr. Johnson motioned to approve the June minutes.
• The motion was seconded by Aislynn Campbell.
• The June minutes was unanimously approved by voice vote.
Review Absences for June: Dr. Elizabeth Sefcik, Belinda Flores and Krista Ramirez
• Dr. Johnson motioned to excuse Dr. Sefcik for her verbal excuse and Belinda Flores
written excuse to Diane Prime. Aislynn Campbell seconded the motion. No action was
taken on the absence for Krista Ramirez: she was not present to give her excuse and no
written excuse was received.
Board Member Report: Legislature that affects the Health District—Aislynn Campbell
Aislyn Campbell shared with the Board a handout that contains information that will be
discussed at the Del Mar Economic Workshop on August 22. The handout outlined some
changes that are going to affect how foods are regulated at the Farmer's Market. The main
items were the expansion of cottage foods, on-farm poultry and rabbit processing and the
Local Health Department Better Communications Bill. Aislynn also informed the Board of
some of the experiences that some Farmers have had when trying to obtain certain permits

such as a permit to sell eggs. Aislynn will get further details so that the Department can help
resolve these issues. She will update the Board as more information becomes available.
Discussion — Raising Awareness of the importance of fluoride in drinking water
Dr. Johnson discussed his concern about the lack of fluoride in bottled water. He voiced his
desire to find ways of encouraging parents/guardians to ensure that their children get enough
fluoride for their teeth. During the discussion Corey Carey (guest), voiced his concerns about
the usage of fluoride, citing articles stating some disadvantages and possible side effects of
using fluoride. The discussion concluded with the need for further discussion as well as a need
for clear guidelines regarding the directive that would be taken regarding the fluoride
discussion. It was requested that a statement from a sound source such as CDC be retrieved
on the relation of fluoride to diseases. This item will be on next month's agenda.
