CITIZENS ADVISORY HEALTH BOARD
November 17,2004
Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District

Members Present: Melinda Gonzales,Vice-Chair, Tony C. Din, Ed.D, Michelle Thomas,Karen Beard,Amanda
Stukenberg, and Dr.Melissa Wilson
Members Absent: Leo Barrera and Rose Caballero, Chair
Health District: Annette Rodriguez,Dr.Burgin, Margie Rose, and Elizabeth Hundley

Cali to Order Melinda Gonzales,Vice-Chair,called the meeting to
order at 3:05pm,noting a quorum was present.
Board Member Ms.Gonzales welcomed all board members,Margie
Comments Rose,Dr.Burgin,and staff for their presence at the
meeting.
Minutes of October 27,2004: A motion was made by
Amanda Stukenberg to
amend the minutes with the
corrections that Rose
Caballero submitted in her
absence. The motion was
seconded by Tony Din.
The minutes of October 27,
2004 were approved as
amended.
Ms.Gonzales welcomed Dr. Stephen Ponder as the
joint representative;Dr.Ponder has been appointed
through the City Council and a recommendation
from the City has been forward to County to concur.
Dr.Ponder's appointment has been placed on the
November 23 Commissioner's Court date.
Ms.Gonzales noted that Dr.Melissa Wilson was also
appointed to the board as a City appointee. She then
congratulated Michelle Thomas on her re-
appointment.
Core Services The organizational charts were reviewed; Amanda
Provided by the Stukenberg inquired on the existence of the
Health District Community Health Manager. The role has been
temporarily filled by Mike Hacker.
Presentations were made by Staff of the following Questions and answers
divisions within the Health District: were also entertained by the

Annette Rodriguez welcomed Commissioner Ortiz to
the meeting.
At 4:08pm,Ms.Gonzales asked the board if they Board members agreed to

Health District Annette Rodriguez noted that a drive-up flu clinic

November 19th at the Health Department from 8-
11:30am. A second drive-up flu clinic will be held at
the Greyhound Race Track on Tuesday,November
23m from 8-3:30pm.
Board Karen Beard recommended that Commissioner Ortiz Commissioner Ortiz noted

Amanda Stukenberg made a suggestion for the
Health District to research system challenges for
better reporting.
Dr.Melissa Wilson felt that the public should be
more educated on obesity awareness and its
consequences.
Ms. Stukenberg noted that Health District Staff does
a great job with their resources. She added that the
information requested of them was so that the board
could serve as advocates for the health district.
Melinda Gonzales announced that it was time to re-
elect officers. She appointed Dr.Diaz,Amanda
Stukenberg,and Karen Beard as the nominating
committee;Dr.Diaz will serve as Chair of the
nominating committee.
The December meeting's agenda will include the
following:
1.)Report of Nominating Committee
