MAYOR'S FITNESS COUNCIL (WITH CLEAN CITY/COMMUNITY PRIDE)
DISCUSSION 0 Met with Peter Palacias from Gabe Lozano Golf Courses to discuss a smoking ban.
• On most golf courses, smoking is only banned indoors and near clubhouses.
• Approximately 90% of clientele are adults who pay to golf.
• Mr. Palacias said that he has not had any issues with people smoking or cigarette litter.
• At Gabe Lozano Golf Courses, CCISD golfers are not allowed to associate with the adults.
• Mr. Palacias is concerned that a smoking ban might hinder business.
• Potential idea of a smoking ban during youth tournaments.
• Motion made to exclude golf courses from the non-smoking ordinance but to establish an agreement with RTA to
ban smoking at youth tournaments. (Made by Elizabeth Kirkland, seconded by Meagan Hollliclay.)
• Potential slogans — "No butts about it," "Clean air because we care," "Clean air, clean city. No smoke Corpus
Christi," "Share the air."
