MINUTES
447th MEETING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION

Chairperson Lehrman called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
Item # 1: Review and approve the minutes of the 446th Civil Service Commission
Meeting held on May 27, 1999. Member Martinez moved for the minutes to be
approved as written. Vice-Chair Medina seconded the motion and it passed.
Item # 2: Review and consider the appeal filed by Firefighter I Ray Cordova, of
question# 40 of_the Firefighter II —.EMS Promotional Examination administered on
September 20, 1999.
The City recommended that answer "A" remain the best answer. Firefighter Cordova
recommended that answer"B" is the best answer.
Item # 3: Review and consider the appeal filed by Firefighter I Ray Cordova, of
question # 67 of the Firefighter If —EMS Promotional Examination administered on
September 20, 1999.
The City recommended that answer "A" remain the best answer. Firefighter Cordova
recommended that answer"C" is the best answer.
The Board went into closed session at 5:46 p.m. and reconvened at 5:49 p.m.
With regard to Item # 2, Question # 40 of the Firefighter II EMS Promotional Exam,
Member Martinez moved to uphold the appeal of Firefighter I Ray Cardona. With regard
to Item #3, Question # 67 of the Firefighter II-EMS Promotional Exam, Member
Martinez moved to deny the appeal. Chairperson Lehrman seconded the motion and it
passed.
Item# 4: Acceptance of Police Chief P. Alvarez, Jr.' letters of non-selection for 1999
Police Academy applicants Corey Bellino, Victor Ceres, Ruben Chapa, Kenneth
Polk, Carl Williams and Jeremy Winters.

Ms. Garcia outlined the process for bypassing applicants for the Police Academy. The
Commission had concern that the letters were not explanatory and it was difficult to make
a recommendation. Ms. Garcia explained the process for the psychological as well as
concerns for the background. The Commission stated that they did not have any
authority to make any changes and the letters were accepted.
Item#2: Election of Vice-Chair of the Civil Service Commission
Member Martinez moved to appoint Rixio Medina as Vice-Chairperson of the Civil
Service Commission. Chairperson Lehrman seconded the motion and it passed.
After no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
