Public Comment: Carolyn Moon spoke in support of the bottle bill. VI. Business for Discussion with Possible Action a. Overview of CRP's Recycling Program's Phase out Approach: Chief John Hyland briefed the committee on CRP's recycling program, which started two years ago after Airport management searched for various ways to save money. Green efforts including, lights out at 5 pm, LED lights on runways, a segway program so that CRP officers are not on grounds as much. Tangible costs have been seen through reduced operating costs. Less trash picked up through diversion means cheaper trash bill. Li b. Tour of CRP's Recycling Program-Suzi Alonzo-Operations and Maintenance Coordinator: Restaurant and gift shops are two of the biggest suppliers of recycling materials. Rental car counters have green bins behind counters. Savings tracked through trash compactor charges are 168 tons to landfill in "07-'08 versus 100 tons to landfill in'08-'09. More than $10,000 worth of savings tracked to date. Aluminum cans go back to r ` City Assistance Fund. S.Alonzo advised that the best way to get businesses recycling is to show them CO savings. c. Review of Litter Control Plan: Illegal tire dumping remains to be a huge problem. The litter plan was originally submitted in 2006. Current brush collection is heading northwest. Free disposal days are . a4. continuing. Committee took interest in charges of bulky items dumped on curbs by rentals. Current charges are$75. Committee hopes to draft resolution to increase fees by$200. d. Update on Speaker's Bureau Reports: L. Mikolaczyik briefed the group on the template that the Speaker's Bureau will be using. Efforts are currently ongoing. Committee will have input on lid design at next meeting.
