III. Approve Minutes &Absences.....1oan Veith motioned for approval, Beth Becerra seconded and
committee approved
IV. Public Comment: Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the committee from
responding and discussing your comments at length. The law authorizes members to make a
statement of factual information, recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry, or advise the
citizen that this subject will be placed on an agenda at a later date.:
• Brief explanation of the three year effort to decrease plastic bags from Solid Waste stream and
presentations held 7 times over that period.
• The two tiered proposed ordinance was explained whereby a business would either have a 1$ or
10 cent per bag fee.
• Explanation of the comprehensive litter plan and best practice research.
• Comment on the COMP STAT meeting with PD.
• Comment on 3-5 feet cart placement.
• Improvements related to ordinance regarding residents, commercial, and tourists.
• Deputizing citizens.
• Increased volunteer numbers.
• Green Star/Beach enforcement.
• Up2U bag distribution.
• Measurement issues.
• Recycle tip of the week issues.
• Chris Anderson was introduced as a new board member.
• Chris Swanson stated during public comment that there are many uncovered loads at the
Landfill/Transfer Station and that as they are turned away they proceed to illegally dump.
1. Business for Discussion and Possible Action
A. Mid October, Clean City will work with PRIDE committee and other organizations including
PD, A&M CC Student Council to perform a clean up of the area around Galvan Music.
B. 3rd Quarter Glass Recycling September 14 at Padre Isles Owners Assn.
i. Discussion of whether future glass recycling could be moved to "central
location."
C. E-Recylcing Nov. 15.
Teresa Klein concerned that not all key players were at Clean City meetings.
D. December 14, 4th Quarter Glass Recycling Calallen Wal-Mart 9:OOam-3:OOpm.
i. Several board members stated they would like to have metrics to
determine where people are coming form.
E. Xmas card Recycling.
i. Will be held in February.
F. Identify items for October agenda.
i. Goodwill manager presentation.
ii. Litter appearance survey date for Keep America Beautiful
iii. Approve CC Recycles week.
iv. Xmas tree marketing November
v. Feast of Sharing.
vi. Determine Glass recycling dates for 2014.
