LeOZ6 Roll call and introductions of members: Present Paul Anthony Castorena- Mathematics Educator; South Park Elementary. Brian Cornelius- Corpus Christi Division Sales Manager, Allied Waste. Daiquiri Richard- Executive Director, Beautify Corpus Christi Association. Paige Dinn- Community volunteer; former child advocate. Mikell Smith- Masters Degree in Environmental Science, emphasis on Waste Management Recycling/Waste Diversion. John Elford- Pastor, St. John's United Methodist Church. Joan Veith- President, Barrios Association; retired Deputy Sheriff. Patricia Garcia- Resource Development Coordinator, CCISD; oversees the Corpus Christi Education Foundation. Paul Bass announced that the appointment of a 9th committee member representing the Chamber of Commerce will be made on August 12th Paul Bass stated that the following City personnel will serve as Ex-officio members: Yvonne Haag- Director of Neighborhood Services (not present). Peggy Sumner- Director of Environmental Services. The Staff Liaison is Lawrence Mikolajczyk- Interim Director of Solid Waste Services, and Paul Bass will act as Secretary. Cara Myers, Executive Assistant of Streets & Solid Waste Services,will record the minutes. Paul Bass presided over the election of chairpersons,with Daiquiri Richard and Mikell Smith elected as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively. Daiquiri Richard presided over the remainder of the meeting,with first order of business the drawing of committee members for 1-or-2-year terms: 1-year Terms: 2-year Terms: Daiquiri Richard Anthony Castorena Mikell Smith Joan Veith John Elford Brian Cornelius Patricia Garcia Paige Dinn SCANNED Daiquiri Richard initiated discussion of a member quorum to conduct business in the event of members' absences; discussion centered on 4 members as a quorum, but no final decision was made. Acting on Paul Bass' recommendation that all members complete the 1-hour Texas Open Meetings Act course, available on DVD from the City Secretary's Office, Daiquiri Richard gave members the option to borrow the DVD or come in at 2:00 p.m. to view it on next meeting date. After discussion, decision was made that Committee will meet monthly, on the first Thursday of each month, at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall in the 6th Floor Meeting Room. Daiquiri Richard introduced Doug Ingram, a Chamber of Commerce nominee for the appointment of 9th Committee member. Daiquiri Richard verbally reviewed the ordinance that created the Committee, and initiated discussion as to agenda for next meeting and the formation of sub-committees; decision that next meeting should focus on the Litter Control Plan, and that it is too premature at this time to establish sub-committees. Paul Bass asked that agenda items be channeled through Daiquiri; and stated that agenda will be posted by Monday at 3:00 p.m. Paul Bass and Lawrence Mikolajczyk reviewed the Solid Waste Department's services, distributed the 2008 Solid Waste Service Guide and Recycling Calendar, and discussed the recent budget presentations to City Council in regards to alternative garbage and recycling collection. Motion and second was made to adjourn passed; meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m. PB/cm
