A recording is made of the proceedings. You must first identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible when addressing the Committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes. Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need an accommodation is requested to contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 828 -4000 at least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Minutes Call to Order — Guy Nickleson - Meeting was called to order II, Roll Call of Members — Members present: Guy Nickleson- Chair, Fran Williams, Tara Martin, Isaac Valencia, Robert Mirabal, Debbie Espinosa, Dr. Ridge Hammons, Dolores Oliveira, Charles Imbergamo, Danny Kollaja Members absent: Rita Morales, Sally Ann Lewis Staff Present: Stacie Talbert III. Adoption of Minutes: Regular Meeting, March 21, 2011 — Dolores Oliveira and Robert Mirabal asked for corrections in their name spellings. Charles Imbergamo motioned to approve the amended minutes, Robert Mirabal second the motion. All members approved the minutes for March 21, 2010 with corrections. IV. Public Comments — No public comments. V. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action Juvenile Justice Grant — Dr. Ridge Hammons • Onsite Career Mentoring - Cooperative effort between Help, Craft Training Center, Juvenile Justice Center and Texas A &M, Corpus Christi applying for the Second Chance Grant from the Department of Justice • Grant will help fund a post placement youth mentoring program to provide mentors, job training for youth that have been incarcerated • Dr. Hammons asking Commission for letter of support • Isaac Valencia motioned to support the Juvenile Justice Grant, Robert Mirabal seconded. Motion approved. • Letter of support to be emailed within two weeks to Dr. Hammons Review Data Collection Project Subscriptions and Solicitations • Stacie discussed the need for commitment from commission members to contact the organizations on the list of possible subscribers • Informed new member, Danny Kollaja on the Data Collection Project, and what the list is for • Recommended that all contact information for organizations on the list be collected before proceeding with members contacting; Charles Imbergamo to update with contact information • Suggested that we provide a press release to the Caller Times for June or July to garner interest for the Project • Police Foundation; Guy will approach May CCPD District Meeting 1 Approve First Quarter Report to City Council • It was unclear as to whether there were pages missing from the draft; the Commission d ecided totable -this item- until- clarification -was -made • Dr. Hammons asked about CBAY Summer Guide; Guy said CBAY has a deadline for getting information to them to put it together • Early to mid May fair at American Bank Center to provide summer camp information to parents, etc. • Stacie asked Guy to have CRAY provide Parks and Recreation with their email blast VI. Staff Liaison Report — Stacie Talbert Stacie related to the Commission information about upcoming budget issues. She stated to the Commission the importance of relaying to City Council the need for family and youth programs and services stay funded. Stepping up efforts at Juvenile Assessment Center to reach out to those parts of the community that need support. VII. Identify Items to be placed on the next agenda for May 16, 2011 • Youth member- How to recruit • Finalize Marketing Packet for data collection project — web page print, flyers, cover letter, samples VII. Adjournment — As there was no further business, Charles Imbergamo motioned to adjourn the meeting. Robert Mirabal seconded. There was no opposition. Chair, Guy Nickleson adjourned.
