I. CALL TO ORDER: The Chair called the Meeting to order at approximately 5:35pm.
II. ROLL CALL: The recording secretary called the roll and announced that a quorum was
present.
III. ADOPTION OF THE MINUTES: REGULAR MEETINGS, June 20th, 2005 and July 18th,
2005
Penny Grochow made a motion to approve the minutes. Drew Reining seconded. Motion passed.
IV.ACTION ON ABSENT MEMBERS:
Tabled until the Commissioners hear from Mr.Arnold, Mr. Johnson and Ms. Stukenberg.
V. DISCUSSION OF UPCOMING VACANCY:
Mr. Cooley has resigned from the Commission due to moving and the Commissioners requested
that applications be made available at their next meeting for review.
VI. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: No public wished to speak.
VII. BUSINESS:
A. OLD BUSINESS
1. Children's Impact Statement
Drew Reining announced that she would have the secretary e-mail the document to members
and they could e-mail back any changes they wished to make.
B. NEW BUSINESS
1. Youth Commission endorsement
Vicky Alexander updated the Commissioners on the efforts being made to form a Youth
Commission. Penny Grochow asked that it be noted in the minutes how very hard that
Vicky Alexander and Brian Silva have worked to bring this project to fruition, as have the
youth and adults helping them, and how this project has been in the works for years and
how exciting it is for it to be so close. Liana Gonzales moved that the Commission
endorse the creation of a Youth Commission. Laura Spear Smith seconded. The motion
passed.

VII. COMMITTEE/STAFF REPORTS:
Coretta Graham and Drew Reining informed the Commissioners about the recent presentations
from an accessibility expert who visited the community to educate the community about
accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act and how important it is to comply with the
ADA. The secretary reported that the City Secretary is looking into the new Open Meetings law
and whether the Commission requires more training.
VIII. ASSISTANT DIRECTOR'S REPORT AND COMMISSION CONCERNS:
Linda Hodge reported on the new officers elected for the Coastal Bend Alliance for Youth. Linda
Hodge reported that we are still attempting to get three former Commissioners to come be
recognized for their contributions. Linda Hodge reported that Commissioner Coretta Graham is
part of the new Leadership Corpus Christi class. Linda Hodge reported that the City will be taking
a team of youth services providers to present to the National League of Cities.
IX. REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION, AGENDA ITEMS: -
It was requested that Commissioners think about the October retreat meeting so that it can be
planned at the next meeting.
X. ADJOURNMENT: Coretta Graham moved that the meeting be adjourned. Brian Silva
seconded. The motion passed.
