COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH
REGULAR MEETING FEB 19 2010
Monday, March 23, 2009, 5:30 p.m.
First Floor Committee Room CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
City Hall, 1201 Leopard St, Corpus Christi, TX
Members of the audience will be provided an opportunity to speak during the meeting. A recording is made of the
proceedings. You must first identify yourself by name and address. Then state your point as briefly as possible when
addressing the Committee. Presentations will be limited to three (3) minutes.
Any person who plans to attend this meeting and may need an accommodation is requested to contact the Parks and
Recreation Department at 826-4000 at least 48 hours in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Minutes
I. Call to Order—Meeting was called to order at 5:31 pm rescheduled from 3/16/09-
II. Roll Call of Members Eddie called Roll -present were: Dr. Garza, Laura Smith,Amanda Stuckenburg,
Miles Toren, Rita Morales, Fran Wilms, Issac Valencia, Robert Mirabal, Lorenzo Knowles, Debbie
Espinosa
III. Adoption of Minutes: Regular Meeting, March 23, 2009 approved.
IV. Action on Absent Member(s)—January 12, 2009 meeting—Johnny Oelschlegal, Chandace Tryon..both
will be contacted and asked if they wish to continue serving on this commission. No meeting was held
in February 09.
V. Public Comment: No Public Comment
VI. New Business for Discussion and Possible Action
1. Discussion and Possible Action for a Continued Resolution of Support for Probation Rules
Enforcement Program lead by Rene Gutierrez, Nueces County Juvenile Probation Dept. Rene lead
this discussion and the commission approved the Resolution of Support with a correction. The
Resolution will be corrected, signed by the Chair and delivered to Rene.
2. Discuss and Possible Action on CCY Quarterly Report—The report was discussed and
reviewed. Chair asked for members to take report and read it—make adjustments and email
them in.
3. Discuss and Possible Action on Request for Quote on CCY Data Collection Project—Reba
reported the outcome of the Data Collection Sub-Committee held on Feb 12, 2008 and
reviewed the four goals that were developed and the recommendation. It was decided that
Reba, Eddie and commission member(s)to attend a meeting with Social Service Research
Center of TX A&M Corpus Christi. The term "snapshot"and "map"was discussed and it was
agreed that these two terms would be reworded. The sub-committee members were thanked
by the Chair.
4. Discuss and Possible Action on the Juvenile Assessment Center- The commission was
informed about a City Study that was taking place about the Juvenile Assessment Center
(JAC). The placement of the Center is currently under the direction of the City Parks and
Recreation Department and there is consideration to move the Center under the Municipal
Court System. The commission decided to get draft a letter of support to keep the JAC under
the direction of the Parks and Recreation Department.
VII. Identify items to be placed on next agenda—Data Collection Project, Quarterly Report, JAC letter
VIII. Adjournment—Meeting adjourned 6:23pm.
