COMMISSION ON CHILDREN & YOUTH
REGULAR MEETING

CALL TO ORDER—The regular March meeting of the Commission on Children and Youth was called to
order by Chair Paige Dinn at 5:25p.m.
ROLL CALL—The recording secretary called roll and announced a quorum was not present.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES—No action was taken due to the absence of a quorum.
ACTION ON ABSENCES—No action was taken due to the absence of a quorum.
DIRECTORS REPORT—Director Cisneros reported that he had nothing to bring forward.
DISCUSSION ITEMS—
A. Recommendation for replacement for vacant members—It was reported the commission needed a
new member from both the Sheriffs Office and from the District Attorney's office. Both of these offices
have recommendations for members to be placed on the commission: Debby Schotts and Missy Midary.
Mrs. Schotts and Mrs. Midary were recommended by consensus for positions on the Commission. The
Commission discussed the possibility of appointing another youth advisory member.
B. Update on Comprehensive Strategy—It was reported that there will be two meetings on
Comprehensive Strategy on April 13,and another on April 10.
C. Update on Juvenile Assessment Center and Technical Assistance—The committee has not yet
received a written recommendation.
D. Report on Community Youth Development Grant—Sylvia Martinez reported on the Community
Youth Development Grant. Fifteen proposals have been received totaling one million dollars in requests.
Their spending has been right on target.
E. Suggestions for the new youth member on Commission—This item was discussed with item A.

CURRENT CONCERNS—Veronica Trevino suggested the Commission consider assisting and informing retail
business employees of child abuse issues and methods of handling. The Commission also had a brief discussion
on the issue of many members' terms expiring in May of 2000 and a few members term expirations in May of
1999.
HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC—No comments were made.
