REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES MOTION Motion to excuse Thomas Dreyer and Irene Martinez for the June 2, 2010 meeting made by Carlos Vargas and seconded by Herman Lee Jones. Motion passed. 2. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 05/05/10 MOTION Motion to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of 05/05/10 made by Carlos Vargas and seconded by Dr. Candelario Huerta. Motion passed. 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) None [With the approval of the Committee, the Chair continued the meeting with Item 6.C.1.] 6. STAFF REPORTS/COMMENTS C. Engineering Services Department 1. Right -of -Way Projects and Checklist Jamie Pyle distributed an ADA Design Checklist to all of the Committee members of what she looks for in the design phase of a project. Ms. Pyle works with ADA street projects that are in the City's/TXDot right-of-way and provided a brief overview of the list. PRESENTATIONS A. Special Needs Transportation Update — Judy Telge Judy Telge, Executive Director of Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living (CBCIL), gave an update on what CBCIL is doing in regards to leading the Special Needs Support Team. The team is a supportive unit to the City of Corpus Christi's Fire Department Emergency Management Office (EMO). The team consists of MHMR, RTA-B-Line, South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, 211, Area Agency on Aging, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, Representatives of Hospice Home Health Agencies and CIBCIL. CIBCIL received funds from the City of Corpus Christi for an Emergency Chip Guide to help train people who will assist in the evacuation process. The EMO will set-up two - six hour training sessions for people who will assist with the evacuation process. The City and CBCIL are continuing outreach to help encourage the citizens of the area to sign up with the 211 process to assist them with evacuating process. (A copy of the presentation is atiachedotft back of the minutes.) B. Community Options, Inc. — Michael DePietropaolo Michael DePietropaolo, Executive Director of Community Options, Inc. (COI), provided information to all the Committee members regarding the COI organization. Community Options, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 in Princeton, New Jersey. The organization has been in Corpus Christi, Texas since 2009. The organization provides employment, housing services for adults who have developmental disabilities. The organization currently has two — four bedroom homes in the City of Corpus Christi. They are rented to residents for $250.00 per month with a maximum of four residents in the home. The money comes from the resident's Social Security income and (COI) provides 24 hour staff in the home including a Registered Nurse on duty that oversees all the medication and care the resident receives. The organization also provides Foster Care, Respite Services, Day Services to assist people with finding employment. Mr. DePietropaolo also spoke about the Community Options Business Advisory Council and the Cupid's Chase National 5 K Run/Walk to be held on February 12, 2011. Walk `n Roll Involvement Wanese Butler provided an update on the 2nd Annual Coastal Bend Walk `n Roll Celebration. Last year the event was held in October 2009. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Registration on site, 7:00 a.m. — 7:45 a.m. Walk begins at 8:00 a.m. Location Bayfront Water Park at Resaca St. & Shoreline Blvd. For more information contact: Aurora Garcia at 361-289-8726. Department Monthly Performance Report Leon Bazar provided the Committee members with the May 2010 Monthly Page 2 of 3 Performance Report. Highlights Included:(Acopyofthe report is' attached tothe back 'ofthe minutes.) • Walk `n Roll Proclamation and ADA Anniversary Proclamation — July 13, 2010 • Wall `n Roll Event — July 17, 2010 • ADA Accessibility Awards — August 10, 2010 • Fair Housing Closures at 105% of Target and Closures within 100 days at 69% • EEOC Charge inventory average age at 218.5 days • Fair Housing case conciliation involving African American female denied large housing after being on waiting list and being passed over — female was moved to top of list and provided larger apartment • Technical Assistance continues to be dominant ADA demand [Item 6.A.3. was discussed during Item 6.A.1.] B. Development Services Department — No Report [Item 6.C.1. was discussed earlier in the meeting.] D. Parks and Recreation Department 1. Summer Program Guides Stacie Talbert provided the Committee members with the new Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Summer 2010 Activity Guide. The guide was distributed through the Caller Times, convenience stores, etc. The Parks and Recreation will continue to provide accommodations for participants who will be taking part in the various programs offered by the department.
