Request/Approvals for Excused Absences Bertha Romero, Alana Manrow, Mary Wambach, Diana Ortega-Feerick and Mary Bustos requested an excused absence for the 8/6/14 regular meeting. Lord Hill, Costal Bend Independent Living Center (CBCIL), Mobility Project Manager stated Wednesday, 9/24/14 Texas Disability Issues Forum will be in Austin, TX. Ms. Hill stated should any Committee members like to attend the Forum CBCIL may be able to assist in covering the cost, considering it is being held in Austin, TX. 2. David Anderson, Human Resources Administrator stated that the H.R. Department invited by Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services (DARS) was to participate in a Job Fair which will be on Wednesday, 9/24/14 from 10:00 a.m. — 2:00 p.m., being held at The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, 5151 McArdle Road. Mr. Anderson asked Committee members to assist in promoting the job fair. (The flyer is attached at the end of the minutes) 5. Presentations (Limited to 10 Minutes) A. Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) — Brigida C. Garcia, Assistant Transportation Planning Director Ms. Garcia provided a PowerPoint presentation on the Metro Planning Organization and its Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). Ms. Garcia stated the MTP is a plan that covers a 25 year horizon on projects that are current, near term as well as long range. She then mentioned the survey the MPO is using as a tool. She requested Page 1 of 12 Committee members and audience to complete the distributed survey and return it to Ms. Aparicio. Chairperson Ramos requested Ms. Garcia return to the Committee as soon as she collected the survey data to provide update. Ms. Garcia accepted the Chairperson's request for her to return. (Handouts are attached at the end of the minutes) B. City Website Accessibility — Norma Davison, E-Government Services Mrs. Wilson stated Ms. Davison requested to have the presentation tabled due to work obligations. Chairperson Ramos approved Ms. Davison's request to table the presentation till 10/1/14. C. 6t" Annual Coastal Bend Walk n' Roll Celebration — Patsy Garcia, Human Relations Division Mrs. Garcia announced the 6t" Annual Coastal Bend Walk n' Roll Celebration will be held Saturday, 9/27/14, registration starts at 6:30 a.m. the walk begins at 8:00 a.m., from Bayfront Water Park at Resaca & Shoreline. The walk is a 2k walk for people of all abilities. A free health fair will be available for all participants after the walk. The Walk is free to the public, free t-shirts will be given to the first 400 participants, free snacks and beverages, Zumba dance warm-up will be provided along with musical entertainment provided by Carlos Vargas DJ Services. Mrs. Garcia introduced the Walk n' Roll Committee Chairs; Ms. 2013 Coastal Bend Senior, Katy Costello; Ms. 2014 Coastal Bend Senior, Rosie Garcia; Ms. 2014 3rd Runner-Up Coastal Bend Senior, Inez Garcia. Mrs. Garcia then introduced the Walk n' Roll President Mr. Mike Rendon. Mr. Rendon thanked Mrs. Garcia for all her work in assisting with the planning of the event; he then thanked all the sponsors for their support. He also provided the Committee members with a flyer of the event. Mrs. Wilson then mentioned the Human Relations Division would be present to do outreach on services the department provides to provide. And well as to promote community awareness of the CFPWD. (A copy of the flyer is attached at the end of the minutes) D. Costal Bend Center for Independent Living (CBCIL) Costal Bend Advocacy Development (CBAD) Class — Judy Telge Ms. Telge stated Corpus Christi and many other communities are in need of developing advocates among the disability community and their allies. The Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living has been offering classes since 2000. The grant funding was provided by the Texas council on Developmental Disability. Ms. Telge went into further discussion providing history information on the building of the CBAD classes. Ms. Telge provided a folder with the following documents inside; Coastal Bend Advocacy Development Application, a list of CBCIL services, Peoples First Language and a photo of the 2014 CBAD graduates. Brief discussion ensued. (A sample of the folder will be kept by Human Relations) 6. Staff Reports/Comments A. Human Relations Division — Performance Report Sylvia Wilson reported the August 2014 monthly performance report. (A copy of the report is attached at the end of the minutes) B. Development Services Department— Department Overview Gene Delauro introduced himself as the acting Building Official for Development Page 2 of 12 Services, replacing John Speights, who is retiring 9/28/14. Mr. Delauro also announced Daniel Grimsbo as the new Development Service Director. He then reported updates on Residential and All Construction Summary Reports for August 2014. (A copy of the reports is attached at the end of the minutes) C. Engineering Services Development— ADA Projects Update Jamie Plye reported the department name is now Capital Program Department which used to be Engineering Services. She then mentioned Will Bray is currently out on leave. Ms. Pyle provided updates on two Fiscal Year 2013 CDBG ADA projects that are currently at 60% design. She then provided a Site Plan & Details of the North Beach Emergency Erosion Repairs project currently underway. Comments and questions ensued. (A copy of the Site Plan is attached at the end of the minutes) D. Parks and Recreation Department— Department Overview Stacie Talbert reported the Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the C.A.S.T for kids event Saturday, 9/6/14 from 8:30-1:30 p.m., North Side Packery Channel Jetties Parking Lot. The event is in need of volunteers to help children with disabilities fish. Each child participating in the event will receive a fishing pole and tackle box to take home. Mrs. Talbert then requested help from Chairperson Ramos to help push a parks program on the 2016 Bond Initiative. She then stated ideas such as building a playground that is completely accessible geared towards kids and adults with disabilities. Ms. Talbert then requested the CFPWD create a subcommittee that can work with the Parks and Recreation Department to come up with where the location of the playground should be and what the playground should look like. Chairperson Ramos stated his interest in Ms. Talbert's request. Comments, questions and brief discussion ensued. Mrs. Wilson stated the request may be placed on the next month agenda. She then mentioned over the years individuals have mentioned ideas of such a park to the Human Relations Division. (A copy of the flyer is attached at the end of the minutes) E. CCPD Parking Control Department— ADA Citation Trend Update Juan Perez reported the Disabled Citation Count for July and August 2014. Brief discussion ensued. (A copy of the reports is attached at the end of the minutes) 7. Subcommittee Reports A. Engineering Subcommittee — Update Chairperson Ramos reported no update; however, subcommittee will be looking forward to meeting sometime next month in October. B. Public Service Announcement Subcommittee Committee member Alana Manrow reported the service announcements have been delivered to all local TV stations and she is in the process of getting with Fox TV as well. Mrs. Manrow recommends Committee members to contact the TV stations the PSA's are shown on to let them know how informational the PSA is. Page 3 of 12 8. Chairperson's Report A. Meetings at Offsite Location Chairperson Ramos requested feedback from Committee members regarding offsite meeting locations. Mrs. Wilson stated the idea was brought up for the CFPWD to gain exposure throughout the community making the citizens aware of the Committees existence in hopes of gaining more of an audience for the monthly meetings. Further discussion ensued. Committee members suggested meeting locations be placed on the calendar; offsite meetings be every other month; invite public officials to attend the meetings; publicize the agendas; meeting at a restaurant or that offsite meetings be held quarterly. Chairperson Ramos requested if Committee members come up with any further ideas regarding offsite meetings they email Mrs. Wilson with the information. He then stated next month he will provide when and where meeting will be. 9. Identify Items to be placed on next agenda • City Website Accessibility - Norma Davison, E-Government Services • Discussion/Action on creation of Accessible Playground Subcommittee • Schedule plan for offsite meetings 10.
