Summary of Minutes for March 6, 2019

A. Requests and Approvals for Excused Absences – Mary Bustos was unable to
attend the March meeting due to illness and asked to be excused. The request was
approved.

B. Welcome of new members, T. C. Chadden and Vanessa Nisb et and
congratulations on the reappointment of Richard Balli, Mary Bustos, Sabrina
Ramirez and Anthony Zoccolillo.
5. Approval of Regular Meeting Minutes of 2.06.18

6. Public Comments
Judy Telge spoke to the Committee about Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living
and their Mobility Options Project which helps citizens with disabilities and seniors with
transportation needs. She requested letters of support from the members in order to
secure funding for the project.

7. Presentations (Limited to 10 Minutes)
A. The Rise School of Corpus Christi, Vanessa Nisbet, Executive Director
Ms. Nisbet discussed the preschool program designed for children from 15
months to 6 years of age which is dedicated to early education of children with
and without disabilities in an inclusive classroom setting. A handout was provided,
and Ms. Nisbet answered questions from the members. (A copy of the handout is
attached to the Minutes.)
8. Staff Reports/Comments
A. Human Relations Division – Sylvia Wilson commented on the Performance Report
for February 2019 and the Life After Graduation event on April 1st and 2nd. (Copies
of the report and flyer are attached to the Minutes.)
B. Development Services Department – Gene Delauro reported on the February
2019 construction permits totaling $18.3 million and answered questions from the
members.
C. Engineering Services –- Marisa Alaniz reported that they are working towards
finalizing the scope for the individual curb, ramp and sidewalk list so it can be sent
to the RTA for grant application.
D. Parks and Recreation Department – Lisa Oliver stated that the new 2019-2020
Aging & Disability Resource Directory is now available. Ms. Oliver commented that
aqua chairs, mobi mats and all-terrain vehicles are available and anyone
interested should contact the beach office with information found on the website.
The Hurricane Conference is scheduled for May 1st and 2nd at the Richard
Borchard Fair Grounds and the City’s Evacuation Drill is set for Friday, June 21st.
More information will be provided at future meetings.
E. CCPD Parking Control Department – ADA Citation Trend Update
Luis Rocha provided the ADA Citation Count Report for February 2019 and
answered questions from the members. (A copy of the report is attached to
Minutes.)
9. Subcommittee Reports
A. Engineering Subcommittee – Mr. Balli stated he would try to schedule a meeting in
March or April.
B. Public Service Announcement Subcommittee – Mr. Balli said he hopes to meet
with Channel 3 next week to discuss the Accessibility Parking PSA. Mr. Burns
stated he would no longer be able to chair the subcommittee and that Mr. Balli
would assist until a new chair could be appointed. Mr. Balli stated appointments to
subcommittees would be discussed in the Chairperson’s Report.
C. Accessible Recreational Parks Subcommittee – Mr. Balli stated that he is planning
to schedule a meeting with the Acting Director of Parks & Recreation to discuss
the possibility of creating a wheel chair accessible soft ball field.
D. Community Volunteer Involvement Subcommittee – Dr. Zoccolillo reported on the
Life After Graduation – Who’s Got Your Back? event on April 1st and 2nd, Special
Olympics on April 6th, and the Beeping Eggstravaganza on April 13th from 1:00-
4:00 PM at Whataburger Field.

10. Chairperson’s Report
A. Resolution Pertaining to Waiver of Ramp Permit Fees – Mrs. Wilson stated that
she is waiting to hear back from the City Attorney on how to proceed in getting the
Resolution on the Agenda for consideration by the City Council and Mayor.
B. Subcommittee assignments – Mr. Chadden agreed to serve on the Engineering
Subcommittee and Ms. Nesbit agreed to serve on the ARP Subcommittee and
chair the PSA Subcommittee.
C. Round table discussion
1. Absences – Mr. Balli encouraged the members to notify the Human Relations
Office if they are unable to attend the monthly meeting.
