Chadden (ENG) Sabrina Ramirez (CVI) Melanie Gomez (PSA) Dr. Anthony Zoccolillo (CVI, PSA) Committee Members Absent: Marshall Burns (PSA, ENG) Staff Members Present: Sylvia Wilson (Human Relations) Ginger Davis (Human Relations) Gene Delauro (Development Svc) Lisa Oliver (Parks/Rec) Luis Rocha (Parking Control) Staff Members Absent: Marisa Alaniz (Engineering) Lisa Aguilar (Legal) A. Requests and Approvals for Excused Absences – Marshall Burns was unable to attend the March meeting due to illness and asked to be excused. The request was approved. Motion – Melanie Gomez Second – Sabrina Ramirez Motion Passed 5. Approval of Regular Meeting Minutes of 3.06.18 Motion – Dr. Anthony Zoccolillo Second – Mary Bustos Motion Passed 6. Public Comments Alba Silvas, Special Projects Contract Manager, from Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend spoke to the Committee about their You Earn & Learn Program designed to help students with disabilities find employment. A flyer pertaining to the program was handed out. Hope Frances Rangel, Business Services Manager from Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend provided additional information on how the worksites are developed for the program. (A copy of the flyer is attached to the Minutes.) MOTION MOTION Page 2 of 10 7. Presentations (Limited to 10 Minutes) A. Sabrina Avila, Mobility Coordinator for Mobility Options Project at Coastal Bend Center for Independent Living Ms. Avila shared information related to the Mobility Options Project which provides transportation for individuals with disabilities of all ages and seniors in the Coastal Bend. A brochure was handed out and Ms. Avila answered questions from the members. (A copy of the brochure is attached to the Minutes.) B. Tammye Salinas, Nueces Center for Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities Ms. Salinas discussed the Chronically Homeless Intervention Program (CHIP) which provides treatment services for individuals, families, and veterans who experience homelessness and have a substance abuse disorder or serious mental or emotional illness. A brochure was handed out and Ms. Salinas answered questions from the members. (A copy of the brochure is attached to the Minutes.) 8. Staff Reports/Comments A. Human Relations Division – Sylvia Wilson commented on the Performance Report for March 2019. (A Copy of the report is attached to the Minutes.) B. Development Services Department – Gene Delauro reported on the March 2019 construction permits totaling $21 million and the status of the proposed waiver for ramp permits. C. Engineering Services –- Sylvia Wilson related the status on some current projects. D. Parks and Recreation Department – In Lisa Oliver’s absence, Mrs. Wilson commented on a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Salinas Park on April 27, 2019 at 10:00 AM. The Committee was informed that Jermel Stevenson is the new Parks and Recreation Director effective April 1st. E. CCPD Parking Control Department – ADA Citation Trend Update Luis Rocha provided the ADA Citation Count Report for March 2019 and answered questions from the members. (A copy of the report is attached to Minutes.) 9. Subcommittee Reports A. Engineering Subcommittee – Mr. Balli stated that a meeting is scheduled for April 11th and that he would have a report at May’s meeting. B. Public Service Announcement Subcommittee – Mr. Balli said that Channel 3 has not returned his calls and he would like to schedule a meeting to discuss possible PSAs. C. Accessible Recreational Parks Subcommittee – Mr. Balli referred to the previous update on Salinas Park. D. Community Volunteer Involvement Subcommittee – Dr. Zoccolillo reported on future outreach events such as the Rise School 5K, the CAST event and the Walk n Roll. Various committee members volunteered to attend the Special Olympics event on April 6th and the Beeping Eggstravaganza on April 13th. Page 3 of 10 10. Chairperson’s Report A. Resolution Pertaining to Waiver of Ramp Permit Fees – Mrs. Wilson referred to Mr. Delauro’s update earlier in the meeting. B. Round table discussion – Mary Bustos commented on the trash being left at the Salinas Park and suggested posting signs encouraging visitors to keep the park clean. 11. Identify Items to be placed on next Agenda • Hope Rangel with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend on the Summer Earn and Learn Program 12.
