Roll Call Committee Members Present: Richard Balli (ARP, ENG) Anthony Navarrette (CVI) Marshall Burns (PSA, ENG) Vanessa Nisbett (ARP, PSA) Melanie Gomez (PSA) Dr. Anthony Zoccolillo (CVI, PSA) Committee Members Absent: Mary Bustos (ARP) Sabrina Ramirez (CVI) T. C. Chadden (ENG) Staff Members Present: Sylvia Wilson (Human Relations) Ginger Davis (Human Relations) Gene Delauro (Development Svc) Lisa Oliver (Parks/Rec) Alex Gonzales (Parking Control) Marisa Alaniz (Engineering) Staff Members Absent: Lisa Aguilar (Legal) A. Requests and Approvals for Excused Absences – Mary Bustos was unable to attend the May meeting due to a family emergency. T. C. Chadden was unable to attend the May meeting due to illness. Both asked to be excused and the requests were approved. Motion – Marshall Burns Second – Anthony Navarrette Motion Passed 5. Approval of Regular Meeting Minutes of 04.03.18 Motion – Melanie Gomez Second – Vanessa Nisbet Motion Passed 6. Public Comments Jermel Stevenson, Director of Parks & Recreation, introduced himself to the members of the Committee and provided some background information. 7. Presentations (Limited to 10 Minutes) A. Charlene Kaplan & Stephanie Garcia, Human Relations Division, Equal Employment and Fair Housing Mrs. Kaplan and Mrs. Garcia presented information pertaining to the services available through the Human Relations Division in the areas of fair housing, equal employment opportunities, public accommodations and ADA technical assistance. A copy of the presentation was handed out and questions from the members were MOTION MOTION Page 2 of 21 answered. (A copy of the presentation is attached to the Minutes.) B. Christa Rasche, Education Service Center, Region 2 Ms. Rasche provided an update on the 4th Annual Life After Graduation event held on April 1st and 2nd and discussed the Charting the Course events for 8th and 12th grade students, scheduled for May 20th and 21st. Flyers were passed out and Ms. Rasche answered questions from the members. (Copies of the flyers are attached to the Minutes.) 8. Staff Reports/Comments A. Human Relations Division – Sylvia Wilson commented on the Performance Report for April 2019. (A copy of the report is attached to the Minutes.) B. Development Services Department – Gene Delauro reported on the April 2019 construction permits totaling $48 million and the status of the proposed waiver for ramp permits. C. Engineering Services –- Marisa Alaniz reported on the crosswalk added to Ramsey Street between the bus stops and other current projects. D. Parks and Recreation Department – Lisa Oliver commented on the Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Salinas Park on April 27, 2019, future summer programs and the evacuation drill at CC Gym on June 21st. E. CCPD Parking Control Department – ADA Citation Trend Update Alex Gonzales provided the ADA Citation Count Report for April 2019 and answered questions from the members. (A copy of the report is attached to the Minutes.) 9. Subcommittee Reports A. Engineering Subcommittee – Mr. Balli stated he had attended an April 11th webinar on ADA emergency management and handed out some related notes. Marisa Alaniz gave a brief report on the subcommittee meeting held on April 11th. (A copy of Mr. Balli’s notes is attached to the Minutes.) B. Public Service Announcement Subcommittee – Marshall Burns suggested the subcommittee members meet via a conference call to discuss options for the PSAs. C. Accessible Recreational Parks Subcommittee – Mr. Balli referred to the success of the Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Salinas Park on April 27th and the Special Olympics on April 6th. D. Community Volunteer Involvement Subcommittee – Dr. Zoccolillo reported on the Special Olympics, Beeping Eggstravaganza, the Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Salinas Park and the 5th Annual Fishing for Autism. 10. Chairperson’s Report A. Mr. Balli reported on the Life After Graduation – Who’s Got Your Back event on April 1st and 2nd, the ADA Emergency Management, Inclusion of Persons With Disabilities webinar on April 11th, and the Ribbon Cutting ceremony at Salinas Park on April 27th. The Committee was encouraged to attend the North Beach Echo Page 3 of 21 Park Planning Initiative on May 9th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Texas State Aquarium. B. Round table discussion – Mr. Balli mentioned options for new Committee shirts and suggested discussing it after the meeting. 11. Identify Items to be placed on next Agenda • Discussion regarding possibility of using a City owned park for a softball field specifically for persons with disabilities • Discussion of new polo shirts with Committee logo • Martha Lawhon, Parks & Recreation, regarding the CAST event 12.
