CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI-COMMITTEE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
Summary Minutes for the Meeting of June 1, 2005
I. The Chairperson called the meeting to order at 3:45 PM
A. Roll call:

Linda Fallwell-Stover, Toni Padilla, Robert Flores, Brian Watson, Mary
Saenz,
Present Staff Members:
Ms. Wanese Butler, Ms. April Moffett, Joseph Hamey, Billy Delgado,
Naomi Ramirez
B. Excused Absences:
Robert Flores
Motion: Mary Saenz moved to excuse Mr. Flores, May absence with a
Second from Brian Watson. The Motion passed.
Ms. Fallwell-Stover stated that she would be in contact with Mr. Sayles so
that she can find out if there is something preventing him from attending
the meetings.
II. Approval of Minutes:
May 4th minutes
The Committee made amendments to the minutes
Motion: There was a motion to accept the minutes as amended by Toni
Padilla with a Second by Mary Saenz. The Motion passed.
[4:00 PM Naomi Ramirez arrived. She attended the meeting in place of Alonzo
Garza]

The Committee made amendments to the minutes.
Motion: There was a motion to accept the minutes as amended by Robert
Flores with a Second by Brian Watson. Motion passed.
Ill. Presentation and Public Comments: No Report
IV. Chairperson's Report: (Discussion, with possible action)
• The Chairperson asked Committee members to encourage people to
become a part of this Committee.
• The CCHRC is in the final stages of the Fair Housing Brochure
V. Sub-Committee Reports:(Discussion, with possible action): No
Report
VI. Staff Reports / Comments (Discussion, with possible action)
A. Non-Discrimination Ordinance
• The Human Relations next Quarterly meeting is scheduled in
July 2005.

• There were 48 complaints on accessibility issues on sidewalks
and curb ramps submitted by individuals. The Human
Relations Department is working with the Neighborhood
Services Department to resolve the complaints regarding the
sidewalks and working with the Engineering Department to
resolve the complaints regarding the curb ramps.
• There was a citizen complaint resolved regarding audio
problems when he viewed the City Council Meeting on the
television.
• The Human Relations Department is aiding in the resolving
some transportation and accessibilities issues from one citizen.
• The Human Relations Department was asked to provide some
technical assistance in providing accessibilities improvements
on the People Street T-Head for the new RTA Water Taxi and
Trolley Stations. Two additional parking spaces and an
accessible path have been added.
• Planning session for Inclusion Awareness. Ms. Butler stated
that the Human Relations Department is in the process of
updating the list of Departmental ADA Coordinators. After the
list is updated, those coordinators will be asked to attend Aaron
McCullough's training session in July 2005.
B. ADA Title I Employment Comprehensive: No Report
C. Other Items:
1. Follow-up on Curb Ramp
Ms. Butler provided a handout from Mr. Bazar and Engineering
Services Department. The Engineering Department has provided
the status of the February 2002 projects. The Committee had
questions regarding the handout from the Engineering Department
and would like another presentation from the Engineering
Department.
2. Park and Recreation Outreach — (Billy Delgado attended the
meeting in place of Ms. Gavlik)
The Park and Recreation Department will forward Inclusion
Awareness materials and flyers to this Committee so that this
Committee can view those before they are distributed to the public.
3. Accessible Polling Places
Ms. Butler is waiting to hear from Nueces County. The county is
going through the process for the new accessible polling units for
2006.
4. July Inclusion/Education Awareness Events

There was a planning session for Inclusion Awareness Month. The
session included Human Relations, RTA, Park and Recreation,
SMG, and Whataburger Field Staff. The group that met is
requesting Aaron McCullough to come and have a training session
here. It was stated that this would be a good time for the
Committee members to receive training. The group that met has
considered training for Whataburger Field Staff, SMG Staff, Parks
and Recreation, ADA Coordinators, and the Operators for RTA.
The City Boards and Commissions are also being considered to
attend. The date being considered is the first week of August. The
Committee members stated that they would like to be made aware
of this training calendar.
VII. Old Business
There was a question about the family restrooms at Whataburger Field.
Another question was about the light pole at Whataburger Field and the path
of travel from the parking lot.
VIII. New Business: No Report
IX. Committee Concerns / Request for Agenda Items:
• Family restrooms, accessible paths of travel and the light pole at
Whataburger Field
• Accessible seating manifest from the American Bank Center. The
Committee would like see accessible seating at all levels
• Follow up on accessible parking citations from Chief Bung and the data
report from municipal court. The Committee is requesting a
presentation.
• Parks and Rec.'s budget relevant to ADA
• Year 2002 vs. 2005—The Committee wants to know what is funded and
what is not. They are requesting a presentation from the Engineering
Department regarding the handout given at the June 1• meeting.
• ADA Title I —Employment—The Committee would like to know Human
Resource's status regarding ADA Title I. The Committee is requesting a
presentation from the Human Resource Department.
X. Announcements:
• Sign Language Camp for Kids June 16 & 17, 2005—Ms. Padilla
XI. Adjournment:
MOTION: Mary Saenz moved for the meeting to be adjourned with a Second
by Robert Flores. The Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 5:26 PM.
