HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Community Youth Development (78415) Program Steering Committee - 02/21/201978415 COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATIVE COMMITTEE Regular Meeting Thursdays, February 21, 2019 – 6:00 p.m. YWCA 4601 Corona, Corpus Christi, TX 78411 Conference Room MEETING MINUTES I. Call to Order: Chair Lisa Torres called the meeting to order at 6:25pm II. Roll Call of Members: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez called the roll and verified that a quorum of Steering Committee members was present to conduct the meeting. Present members included: Lisa Torres, Carlos Barrera, Velma Lozano, Ricardo Pimentel, Simone Butler, Rene Gutierrez, Deborah Sherrill, and Marlena Asocar Wilson. III. Adoption of Minutes: Special Meeting January 24, 2019. Chair Lisa Torres referred to approval of the minutes. Committee Member Simone Sanders made a motion to adopt the minutes as written, seconded by Committee Member Velma Lozano and passed unanimously. IV. Action on Absent Members: No absent members, tabled for next meeting. V. Public Comment: No public comments. VI. Business for Discussion and Possible Action: A. Program Manager Sandra Alvarez informed committee members that one applicant who was recommended to the 78415 Collaborative Committee denied the appointment and there are now 2 vacancies. Committee members discussed having people apply for the committee. B. Subcontractor Youth Odyssey’s Executive Director, Becky Meyer, informed committee of next available weekend programming for possible site visit by Committee Members. March 23 was agreed upon as a date to visit Youth Odyssey site. Committee Member Simone Sanders offered to sponsor lunches for youth. C. Committee members discussed possible locations to distribute CSNA FY19 survey to 78415 community. Committee Member Velma Lozano recommended having committee members available for questions during after school registration at which CSNA surveys would be distributed. Committee member Rene Gutierrez offered distribute surveys at the Juvenile Probation office to youth who need service hours. Subcontractor Rene De La Paz (Communities in Schools) mentioned how difficult it was to get completed surveys for FY18 with the long form, the new simplified form should make it easier for subcontractors. Committee members agreed to take 20 surveys each to distribute in the 78415 community. D. Program Manager Sandra Alvarez asked committee members for ideas for the upcoming CYD Leadership Banquet. Subcontractor Rene De La Paz stated how successful last years event was and how the youth really enjoyed it. Committee member Marlena Asocar Wilson asked how youth were chosen for the award, 5 youth chosen by each subcontractor for FY18. Committee Member Simone Sanders recommended having a motivational speaker this year, Chair Lisa Torres mentioned possible local representatives to speak. Committee agreed to have City Councilman Ben Molina speak. Committee also decided new Committee Member Rene Gutierrez will give the invocation at the banquet. E. Committee members voted on grey CYD shirts for youth to be used as incentives and grey shirts for Committee Members to match the youth. VII. YAC Report VIII. Fiscal Agent Report: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez gave updates on CYD quarterly numbers as well as the number of unduplicated youth served during the months of December and January. IX. Identify items to be place on next month’s agenda: A. Election of Vice Chair B. 78415 Collaborative Committee By-laws C. Short term goals, ideas, and suggestions for 78415 Collaborative Committee D. CYD Leadership Banquet X. Adjournment: Meeting Adjourned at 7:23pm, Ricardo Pimentel made a motion, and seconded by Rene Gutierrez and passed unanimously.
