HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Community Youth Development (78415) Program Steering Committee - 06/20/201978415 COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATIVE COMMITTEE Regular Meeting Thursdays, June 20 – 6:00 p.m. YWCA, 4601 Corona, Corpus Christi, TX 78411 Conference Room MEETING MINUTES I. Call to Order: Chair Lisa Torres called the meeting to order at 6:06pm II. Roll Call of Members: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez called the roll and verified that a quorum of Steering Committee members was present to conduct the meeting. Present members included: Lisa Torres, Ricardo Pimentel, Carlos Barrera, Velma Lozano, and Rene Gutierrez. III. Adoption of Minutes: Regular Meeting April 18, 2019. Chair Lisa Torres referred to approval of the minutes. Committee Member Rene Gutierrez made a motion to adopt the minutes as written, seconded by Committee Member Velma Lozano and passed unanimously. IV. Action on Absent Members: Simone Sanders was absent due to death in the family and Deborah Sherill was absent due to being out of town for work. Committee voted on excusing absences, Carlos Barrera made a motion to excuse absences for both members, seconded by committee member Velma Lozano and passed unanimously. V. Public Comment: No public comments. VI. Business for Discussion and Possible Action: A. CYD By-Laws – Committee members reviewed CYD By-Laws and discussed changes to Article 2. Function, Article 3. 1. Membership, Article 3.3. Attendance, Article 4.1. Regular Meeting location, and Article 5.4. Proposal Review. Chair Lisa Torres recommended to fiscal agent to send email requesting any additional feedback about By-law changes to absent committee members. Committee will vote on approval of changes to CYD By-Laws at next regular schedule meeting. B. Marketing goals for CYD Program – Committee member Rene Gutierrez offered a few suggestions for goals to promote the CYD program including: • Creating a CYD twitter with a goal of how many followers per month and to tweet at least once a day, 60 day trial • Use other social media that youth use like Snapchat and Instagram • Create banners to hang at local business and on busy streets. • Information table at the local Trade Center and community fairs. • Following CCISD principals on Twitter. Committee member Carlos Barrera offered his business as a location for hanging a CYD banner to attract attention to the program. C. Community Strength and Needs Assessment (CSNA) – Committee members viewed current data on CSNA results from both paper survey and online survey that have been taken. CSNA is up more than 50% from FY18. 475 paper surveys were submitted with 45 surveys done online through Survey Monkey. Committee member Rick Pimentel questioned how questions and scoring was decided on. Program Manager, Sandra Alvarez, stated that the CYD Youth Advisory Committee gave feedback in a focus group on questions and scoring for FY19 CSNA. Questions and scoring were then revised based on the feedback from YAC youth. D. PEI visit – Program Manager, Sandra Alvarez, informed committee members of upcoming visit by CYD grant officials from state office July 11-July12 and what the visit will entail. E. CYD Budget Review – Program Manager, Sandra Alvarez, gave an update on the FY19 budget review that was done in May 2019 and what budget transfers were approved by the state, including the funding for advertisement of the CYD program through the RTA bus benches and bus wrap. Committee member Rick Pimentel gave input and what information should be on bus benches and bus advertisement; subcontractors and programs offered. F. CYD Youth Workshop – Program Manager, Sandra Alvarez, gave information about upcoming approved CYD Youth Workshop to be held, committee chair Lisa Torres mentioned contacting Patsy-Vasquez-Contes with the GI Forum and David Silva Jr. with Templo Elim to help with CYD. G. Back to School Event – Committee members were informed of upcoming Back to School event for August 24, 2019 and ideas for vendors to set up booths for free event. H. FY20 – Program Manager, Sandra Alvarez, discussed bringing in the Parks and Recreation Lindale Recreation Center to provide additional services to increase youth participation in the CYD program. CYD will pay for 30 youth to attend the weekly program and will offer Lifeskill classes to teens. Communities in Schools will take over the YAC for FY20. VII. YAC report: No YAC report, YAC youth were at the Youth Summit at Texas A&M College Station. YAC youth will report on Teen Summit at next regular meeting. VIII. IX. Fiscal Agent Report: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez gave updates on CYD monthly numbers and expended budget. X. Identify items to be place on next month’s agenda: A. Social Media Marketing efforts B. Back to School Event C. Changes to By-Laws D. Marketing Goals XI. Adjournment: Meeting Adjourned at 7:24pm, Rene Gutierrez made a motion, and seconded by Velma Lozano and passed unanimously.
