COLLABORATIVE COMMITTEE
Regular Meeting
Thursday, August 15,2019 – 6:00 p.m.
Heritage Park, Galvan House
1581 N. Chaparral St., Corpus Christi, TX 78401
MEETING MINUTES
I. Call to Order: Chair Lisa Torres called the meeting to order at 6:00pm
II. Roll Call of Members: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez called the roll and verified that
a quorum of Steering Committee members was present to conduct the meeting.
Present members included: Lisa Torres, Simone Sanders, Deborah Sherill, Velma
Lozano, and Rene Gutierrez.
III. Adoption of Minutes: Regular Meeting August 15, 2019. Chair Lisa Torres referred to
approval of the minutes. Committee Member Rene Gutierrez made a motion to adopt
the minutes as written, seconded by Committee Member Velma Lozano and passed
unanimously.
IV. Action on Absent Members: Ricardo Pimentel was absent due to sickness and Carlos
Barrera has elected not to be reappointed to the committee for a second term and will
no longer be in attendance. Committee voted on excusing absence for Ricardo
Pimentel and passed unanimously.
V. Public Comment: No public comments.
VI. Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
A. Adoption of By-Laws – Committee member Deborah Sherill made a motion to
adopt, seconded by Committee Member Rene Gutierrez and passed unanimously.
B. Social Media Marketing Efforts – Committee members discussed progress of social
media efforts from fiscal agent and what else could be done to improve community
awareness. Committee Member Lisa Torres and Simone Sanders mentioned
merging social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so that
one post can be seen on all. Committee Member Lisa Torres mentioned that the
CYD program needed a tag line to grab the attention of the community and to help
increase more awareness.
C. Back to School Bash – CYD Program Manager gave an overview of activities and
vendors that will take part in the event as well as asked Committee Members for
any additional input and assistance in recruiting additional vendors. Committee
Member Rene Gutierrez offered to get the Fire Department involved by having a
fire truck at the event and Simone Sanders offered ideas for games and to donate
bags and water bottles. Lisa Torres brought the idea of inviting the Leal Brothers
car club out to the event to display their cars as well as reaching out to Sylvia
Mejia at South Park Middle School.
D. CCC Reappointments – Committee Member Lisa Torres was reappointed to the
78415 Community Collaborative Committee.
E. CCC Vacancies – Committee members discussed vacancies and review applications
for the 78415 Collaborative Committee. Committee members unanimously voted
on selecting applicants Job Gonzalez, Chris Mitchell, and Verna Yanez to be
recommended to Council for appointment to the 78415 Community Collaborative
Committee.
VII. YAC report: No YAC report, the YAC was transferred to Subcontractor Communities in
Schools from the Boys and Girls Club, Communities in Schools did not have youth in
program since 2019-2020 school year has not started and program at the Boys and
Girls Club summer program ended August 2.
VIII. Fiscal Agent Report: Program Manager Sandra Alvarez gave updates on CYD monthly
numbers and expended budget.
IX. Identify items to be place on next month’s agenda:
A. New Committee Member introduction
X. Adjournment: Meeting Adjourned at 7:11pm, Deborah Sherill made a motion, and
seconded by Simone Sanders and passed unanimously.
