SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd/5:30 P.M.

I. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Martin called the February 22, 2001 Special Called Meeting of the Community
Youth Development Steering Committee to order at 5:30 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL:
The Recording Secretary called roll and announced that a quorum was present. Ms.
George introduced new Steering Committee members Roxana Arevalo and Rafael
Alvarez.
III. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: None.
IV. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FOR THE SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF
JANUARY 25, 2001.
Ms. Lucero moved that the minutes from the Special Called Meeting of January 25, 2001
be approved as written. Mr. Leonard seconded. The motion carried.
V. ACTION ON CURRENT MEMBERS: None
VI. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ON FUNDING CAPS FOR PROPOSALS:
Ms. Lucero moved that the Community Youth Development Steering Committee
continue to evaluate each program based on its merits and have the latitude to fund the
programs that best suit the needs of the 78415 zip code. The motion carried
unanimously.
VII. PRESENTATION ON FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONS:
Ms. George distributed materials containing the State guidelines relating to "faith-based"
organizations. She stated that the main differences are that certain costs cannot be
included. Additionally, the Steering Committee cannot endorse the religion of the
organization and that the religious identity of the organization and the students must be
preserved.

VIII. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: None.
IX. CURRENT CONCERNS: None.
X. ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further business to discuss, Mr. Leonard moved to
adjourn the Special Called Meeting of the Community Youth Development Steering
Committee of February 22, 2001. Ms. Lucero seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
