COMMUNITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT STEERING COMMITTEE
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2001/5:30 P.M.

In the absence of a quorum, Ms. Marla Miller, Texas Network of Youth Services (TNOYS)
began her training session. She began with an overview of CYD and TNOYS' training.
Roxana Arevalo arrived at 6:30 p.m.
I. CALL TO ORDER:
In the absence of Chair Martin and Vice-Chair Leonard, Ms. Varino called the August
16. 2001 Regular Meeting of the Community Youth Development Steering Committee to
order at 6:30 p.m. P
II. ROLL CALL:
The Recording Secretary called roll and announced that a quorum was present.
III. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: None.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JUNE
21. 2001: Mr. Alvarez moved to approve as written the minutes from the Regular
Meeting of June 21, 2001. Ms. Arevalo seconded the motion. The motion carried.
V. ACTION ON CURRENT MEMBERS: None. Ms. George stated that City Council
will be acting on the applications for the vacant positions at the meeting on August 21st.
VI. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: None.
VII. CURRENT CONCERNS: Ms. Varino suggested a newspaper article to explain who
CYD is and what CYD does. She volunteered to approach someone she knows at the
Caller-Times.
VIII. TRAINING: MARLA MILLER, TEXAS NETWORK OF YOUTH SERVICES

Ms. Miller resumed the training that she began at 5:30 p.m. while the Steering Committee
waited for a quorum to assemble. She led the Steering Committee members through
several exercises relating to self-evaluation and discussed recruitment of new members.
Chris Sen,tner left at 7:15 p.m.
IX. ADJOURNMENT: As there was no further business to discuss, Ms. Arevalo moved to
adjourn the August 16, 2001 Regular Meeting of the Community Youth Development
Steering Committee. Mr. Alvarez seconded the motion. The motion carried. The
meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
