Cummins-Colburn CALL TO ORDER: Verla Varino called the June 19,2003 Regular Called Meeting of the Community Youth Development Steering Committee to order at 5:40p.m. II. ROLL CALL: Ms. Varino called roll and announced that a quorum was present. III. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: None. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE REGULAR CALLED MEETING ON May 15,2003: Rafael Alvarez moved to accept as written the minutes of the May 15, 2003 meeting. Coretta Graham seconded the motion. The motion carried. V. ACTION ON CURRENT/NEW ELECTION OF VICE-CHAIR MEMBERS: Monica Corona announced that there is a vacancy for vice-chair and opened the floor for nominations. Bobbe Cummins-Colburn nominated Rafael Alvarez, and Cynthia Rodriguez seconded the motion. Motion carried. VI. DIRECTOR'S REPORT:Monica Corona announced that she,Katy and Vanessa would be attending the Teen Summit from July 23rd-25th. Four other youth from Communities In Schools (CIS), will also be attending the Teen Summit. along with a CIS adult chaperone. The Steering Committee was informed that PRS recently announced that movies were no longer an allowable expense for subcontractors. Ms. Corona further stated that CIS was the only subcontractor that had spent CYD funds on movies for the youth, this fiscal year. Ms. Corona indicated that Protective and Regulatory Services (PRS) is requesting that the fiscal agent reimburse them for the amount of money spent on movies. Ms. Corona further notified the Steering Committee that PRS informed her that there would be a possible 16%-18% cut for all the Community Youth Development Programs, because of State budget cuts. Ms. Corona stated that PRS would notify her as SCANNED 4 they had a more precise amount of reduction. Mr. Semtner advised Mr. Hoelscher with Communities In Schools, to check with his Executive Director to inquire if the reduction of funding to their program, would change the number of unduplicated youth served for fiscal year 2004. Mr. Semtner advised the Steering Committee that the fiscal agent would check with PRS about the connection of the cut and the possible change in number of participants served. Ms. Corona asked the Steering Committee if they would like monthly meetings with the subcontractors' next fiscal year to hear updates on their programs. All members agreed that monthly meetings would be beneficial. Ms. Corona advised Steering Committee members that this would be a topic of discussion for next months meeting, and that it would be on the agenda. Lastly, Ms. Corona reminded the Steering Committee that they needed to recruit another member to the Committee. She advised them that there is still a vacancy on the Committee. VII. CURRENT CONCERNS: None. VIII. ADJOURNMENT: Since there was no further business, Vanessa Reynolds moved to adjourn the June 19, 2003 Regular Called Meeting of the Community Youth Development Steering Committee.
