MEETING MINUTES
CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE
Call to Order—Called to order at 5:40pm
II. Roll Call—Member in Attendance-Venessa Santos-Garza, Larry Rest, Linda Copado-
Rincon, Father Peter Martinez, Linda Moyer, Diana Mesa; Absent-Jim Boller, Ann
Cortez, Mary Ann Rojas, Erica Mora,Alyssa Carrasco
III. Hear from the Public—No public attended meeting
IV. Approval of Minutes: None
V. Consider Committee Member Attendance Issues:
A. Introduction of New Member: Mary Ann Rojas and Venessa Santos-Garza—Mary
Ann Rojas was unable to attend. Mrs. Santos-Garza spoke a few words about her
background and her decision to work with CYD.
B. Annual Chair appointment—Celina Pulcher announced that appointments would
be made at the next meeting.Appointments are made annually and the Committee
will have to vote on a Chair and Vice-Chair.
VI. Service Provider's Report:
A. Boys&Girls Club—Closing out the summer program which went very well. The
new VIPS program ran well with the youth assisting in removing graffiti and making
them aware of all the aspects of graffiti. Anne Baker reported that they would be
expanding their after school pick-up with additional trips. They will also be gearing
up for Girls Kickball and Flag Football programs.
B. Communities In Schools—Unable to attend due to work conflict
C. Planned Parenthood—Summer programming was coming to an end. This summer
the program worked well with a series of 4 sessions each month and was well
attended.
D. YMCA/VAC Coordinator— Lindy Bums announced the start-up of their YAC
program. She spent the summer working with youth at the LA Hud and was happy
to see some of them at her schools. She is currently working on a workbook for the
year and tweaking the program as the year progresses.
E. YWCA—Isabel Martinez reported they were closing the summer Leadership
camps which were approx. 10 camps with new girls each week. They partnered
with the Graffiti Task Force and received great media coverage. Other activities
included working on a Puppet Show, conducting Fitness Center Camps, and
participating in Dive-in Movies. A new Community Director, Mickela Hernandez,
has been hired and will be attending soon.
F. Youth Odyssey—Becky Koeller reported they had an excellent year, extremely
busy. Worked all summer with 78415 youth and had some excellent outcomes. For
_ the.new year,they will have a program at Carroll H.S. and have two programs in
Sept. and Oct. along with a new staff member.
G. Teen Trekkers—Unable to attend
