MEETING MINUTES
Call to Order: Meeting was called to order at 5:35pm
• It. Roll Cali of Members: Absent members included Father Peter Martinez,Jim Boller, Linda
Copado Rincon and Belinda Barrera
Ill. Adoption of Minutes: No adoption of minutes were recorded
IV. Action on Absent Members: No action on absent members was done
V. Public Comment: No public available for comment
VI. Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
A. Discussion of yearly objectives and planning for CYD events—Mrs. Celina Pulcher
discussed with the Committee and Providers the development of the CYD program and it's
various components. She passed out handouts that included information on the YAC, the
Community Needs Assessments and the Providers. It was discussed how each of the
components plays a part in the program and the importance of working together to provide
for the community. It was decided that further information and questions would be posed to
each of the attendees on how to make improvements to the program.
B. Provider Reports for the first quarter activities—Each provider gave a report on what their
program does and how they accomplished their goals for the first quarter.
a. Boys and Girls Club, Anne Baker reported they had already reach 50%of their goal.
They were working with the Sylva Learning Center in providing a tutoring program for the
youth at their center and also working on a diabetes program.
b. Communities In Schools, Vicky Guerrero reported the Communities In Schools program
was doing well with the various programs they were offering.The discussed their success
with their Gang Awareness Program and how they had one youth turn in their colors. They
have been working with their Cooking Club, Chess Club and Red Ribbon activities.
c. CC Parks& Recreation,Tessy Gonzalez gave a description on the activities that they
have in store for the youth for the summer program.
d. CC All Star Gym, Carol Creely reported they had youth that were bringing in friends and
how they recruited youth to the program.They are currently looking at ways to
accommodate.more youth.
e. CC Housing Authority, Rachel Benavides reported they were working on a Partnership
with the Food Bank to provide snacks for the youth. They currently work with youth on
tutoring and recreational activities and have 82 registered youth.
CPf. SERCO of Texas, Nancy Bonilla discussed the Careers of the Future program.A recent
activity included bringing in military recruiters and veterans in recognition of Veterans Day.
Youth were able to hear from those veterans that have been in combat and understand what
it truly takes to be a soldier. They have also been able to do several job site tours including
one to The Port of Corpus Christi.
g. YMCA,Christin Woodall discussed the YAC's activities and the Youth&Government
activities. These included campus clean-ups, several service projects and the competitions
in three fields for the youth.
Qh. Youth Odyssey, Becky Koeller discussed the importance of their program and how they
teach youth how to navigate through their lives through adventure programs.They relate
their adventures back to the lives they currently experience and they see a major
improvement in the youth. They are currently working n a Youth Board that utilizes other
youth as mentors.They are also working on a restorative project of Blucher park.
i. YWCA, DeeDee Lopez discussed their successes with the Y-Teens programs.They
recently held a Fantastic Futures Math&Science Technology Day and it was well received.
Instructors from the Star Base Atlantic with the only female pilot came to visit with the youth.
They also started their Reading Rally and are working on including recreational classes.
VIII. YAC Report: Report from YAC representatives on 1st Quarter Activities—The youth discussed
their involvement with the Youth &Government Competitions and various community clean-ups.
