HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 05/19/2010 MINUTES RECEIVED CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY,MAY 19,2010 JUL 16 2010 CITY HALL,6111 FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM Members Present CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Gail Gleimer Loeb Susie Luna Saldana Cecil Johnson David Sauceda Randy Maldonado Michael Staff The meeting was called to order by Cecil Johnson at 2:37 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Staff and second by Mr. Maldonado to approve the minutes as printed. Motion carried,6/0. There was no report from Chief Riggs. Constance Sanchez gave the finance directors report. We are 9 months or 75% into the budget year and expenditures are 69.19%. Sales tax was higher this month,but we remain under budget by 12%. Daniel Vargas gave an overview of a new pilot program, The "Seed"Program. The mission statement is to provide our youth with the opportunity to be successful in the future through awareness and education; to teach our youth to serve humankind, to feel safe in their community and to respect all persons,property and most of all each other. Cecil Johnson requested feedback from students after they have participated in the program. Mrs. Luna Saldana expressed that the Crime Control Board endorsed the program. Mr. Vargas also explained that JAC would be moving on Monday May 24th to the new location at the Wilson Building. Pat Eldridge explained that the 2nd graffiti truck was making a definite impact on graffiti, enabling the team to keep up with the work orders. Mrs. Luna Saldana stated the quarterly presentation to city council went well. Ms. Eldridge explained to the board that city council will have a public hearing on June 8`h followed by an action item on June 15 to approve/reject the FY 10/11 budget. The cost of equipment for the JET Team to conduct further investigations on gang members would consist of a stand alone computer and a stand alone Internet connection, estimated from $600 to $750 a year. A motion was made by Mr. Staff and second by Mr. Sauceda to pay the reoccurring fee up to $750.00. Motion carried, 6/0. The June Crime Control Board meeting would be held at the new location of the Juvenile Assessment Center. Mr. Staff explained that there is a need for video cameras in the police units. Mr. Maldonado asked if it was customary for police officers who pull over illegal immigrants to call ICE. Mr. Maldonado would like for Chief Riggs to report to the board the standard procedure when police officers come across illegal immigrants. A motion was made by Mr. Johnson and second by Mr. Sauceda to adjourn the meeting at 3:26 p.m. Motion carried, 6/0. SCANNED
