HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 07/21/2010 MINUTES • CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT RECEIVED WEDNESDAY,JULY 21,2010 CITY HALL,en FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM SEP 1 4 2010 Members Present Cecil Johnson Susie Luna Saldana CIN$ECRETARV'S OFFICE Gail Gleimer Loeb David Sauceda Randy Maldonado Michael Staff The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:53 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Staff and second by Mr. Sauceda to approve the minutes of June 16, 2010. Motion carried, 5/0 with Mrs. Gleimer Loeb abstaining. Chief Riggs reported that his focus has been on gang violence. He also stated that the Faith Based Summit will be coming up soon and a date has not yet been set. He advised members that Compstat is every 2nd and 4' Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at police headquarters. Chief Riggs explained that a hurricane preparedness plan is being worked on by Commander Schauer and Captain Asbury. Additionally a wellness program has been established for officers to get into shape with a program for civilian employees to come in the future. Commander Mark Schauer distributed artwork from CCISD students, kindergarten through 5'"grade,who participated in the program sponsored by the Crime Control District. He also explained that the Graffiti task force was honored at a recent City Council meeting. Commander Schauer explained that occurrences of graffiti have decreased and arrests are down from last year. Constance Sanchez gave the financial directors report and stated that revenue fiscal year to date are 9.51% under last year, but have been steadily increasing the past few months. Expenditures are 83.75% and we are 91.67% into the fiscal year. The new Park and Recreation Director, Michael Morris introduced himself explained that he was excited and ready to begin working with everyone. Interim JAC Superintendent Daniel Vargas explained that there have been more night violators this fiscal year as compared to last year, 139 in FY 0809 vs 177 in FY 0910. He further explained that the Juvenile Justice Center and Municipal arc working well together. The hoard discussed the possible extension of the crime control sales tax to include telecommunications services. A rough draft of the resolution was submitted to the board members. Lisa Aguilar explained that the comptroller's office requires that a resolution is passed in order to impose the sales tax. The board requested additional information on the revenue that would be produced by the extension of the tax. Eddie Houlihan from the Budget Office will prepare the report. The board requested the resolution be placed on the August agenda for discussion with possible action. Items to be placed on next month's agenda will be a resolution extending the sales tax base to include telecommunications services. A motion was made by Mrs. Gleimer Loeb and second by Mr. Sauceda to adjourn the meeting at 3:29 p.m. Motion carried, 6/0. *Mike Staff and Cecil Johnson arrived at 2:53 p.m.* SCANNED
