HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 05/16/2012MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2012 CITY HALL, 6 TH FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM Members Present Bob Corrigan Randy Maldonado Estela Garcia Susie Luna Saldana Randy Hicks Michael Staff Cecil Johnson The meeting was called to order at 2:35 p.m. by Susie Luna Saldana. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Staff to approve the minutes of April 18, 2012 as printed. Motion carried, 7/0. Chief Simpson briefly described the reorganization. Two Commanders were promoted to Assistant Chiefs, Marl-, Schauer and Michael Markle. He additionalIv reviewed the Summer Crime Initiative which will take place from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Constance Sanchez stated the annual revenue for the 9 months ended April 30, 2012 is $4,534,73330, 84% of budget. Sales tax for 9 months ended April 30, 2012 is $4,524,62230, 13.21% over what was budgeted. Summaiv of Appropriations and expenditures is $3,915,256.40, 73.5% of budget. Diana Naranjo, Juvenile Assessment Center, presented a monthly report on curfew violation occurrences. Detective Steve Smith reported there were 378 graffiti work-, orders called in for April 16 -May 16, currentIv 168 were approved. Detective Smith explained that an arrest of a juvenile offender was made on Mav 2 with 7 cases cleared this past weel -,. Captain Houston will present the board with an update on the purchase of equipment at the next meeting. Pat Eldridge stated that the budget was presented to council on May 8, 2012 and no questions were asked. A public hearing will be held on June 12 the I 's` reading will be on June 19 and council will approve or reject the budget on June 26 Pat Eldridge explained to the board that the Enduro bikes are 7 Nears old and 2 of them need to be replaced. The lowest bid for two bikes was $12,309.96. A couple of board members had concerns on the bid prices. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Johnson to approve the purchase of two bikes. After a brief discussion of price and the engine size, a motion was made by Mr. Staff and second by Mr. Johnson to amend the I' motion to read modify FY 2012 capital outlay list to include the purchase of three Enduro bikes and not to exceed $20, 000. Motion carried, 7/0. Cmdr Escalante and Capt Mersing presented the Summer Crime Initiative which will begin Memorial Dav and end Labor Day. The target goals for this initiative are on Juvenile Crimes, Hot Spots, Gang Crimes, Traffic, and prevention/public awareness. Doug Mann, prosecutor from the District Attorneys Office, discussed the graffiti cases they have pending in their court and their approach to filing. The discussion led to whether or not there should be a separate court to hear graffiti cases. Mr. Mann stated there are not enough cases to warrant one court and the cases are spread across the dockets.
