HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 07/18/2012MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 2012 CITY HALL, 6 TH FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM Members Present Bob Corrigan Randy Maldonado Estela Garcia Susie Luna Saldana Randy Hicks Michael Staff The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:32 p.m. A correction to the minutes of June 20, 2012 as follows: Susie Luna Garcia to Susie Luna , Saldana. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Hicks to approve the minutes as corrected, Motion carried, 6/0. The financials were discussed and presented as follows: • Annual revenue for the 11 months ended June 30, 2012- YTD $5,523,37639 • Analysis of Revenue (Sales Tax) - $5,511,208.89 • Summary of Appropriations and Expenditures for 11 months ended June 30, 2012- $4,697,545.94 Diana Naranjo gave monthly presentation on the JAC. Ms Naranjo reviewed curfew statistics and prevention program activities. Report from Chief of Police: • Update on Summer Crime Initiative- Commander Escalante explained that the Summer Initiative will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day a total of 102 days. He advised they are seeing positive results and that all divisions of the police department are involved. Targeted activities are property crimes, Juvenile crimes and traffic safety issues. Auto theft division using bait cars, Gang unit on top of their game and traffic division has issued 4100 citations. Municipal Court has seen 1000 cases in one month; usually they will see 300 cases. • Chief Simpson spoke about issuing citations starting August 1 st for violators parking the wrong way down a street and blocking sidewalks. Senior Officer Stephen Smith explained to the board that they currently have 354 graffiti work orders as of June 18 285 are approved work orders waiting to be completed. Graffiti task force had 6 arrests in June. Commander Houston reviewed CCPD Police Academy and the Del Mar Police Academy. Cmdr. Houston explained that CCPD has always had an academy. We used Del Mar for a time period to allow the cadets to accrue 15 -17 college hours. Now applicants earn the same hours in the CCPD academy. In 2005 the agreement between Del Mar College and CCPD ended. CCPD has had 100% passing rate on the TCLEOSE exam since 2005, whereas Del Mar has not.
