CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:32 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Johnson
and second bV Mr. Hicks. Motion carried 6/0.
Priscilla Garza gave the financial report. Sales Tax revenue for 12 months ended JuIv 31, 2012 is
$6,113,145.69 or 13.84% above budget. Appropriations and expenditures were $5,102,25430 or 95.76%
of budget. Final figures will not be available for another 60 days.
Charles Abalos, Juvenile Assessment Center Case Manager, gave the following update:
• 35 curfew violation occurrences and intakes for the month of JulyT 1 day- ime, 34 nighttime
24 court referred youth
47 referred for urinalysis testing
Chief Simpson reported the following:
• Update on women and minority* hiring -CCPD put together several workshops for potential
applicants. The 2 seminars and 9 fitness courses have attracted a diverse group of females.
Senior Officer Mel Goce is doing a great job with recruiting.
• CCPD to hire 15 cadets to start in Januaiv of 2013.
Commander Houston explained that the last academy* started with 22 cadets and finished with 18. Chief
Simpson stated that the department will return next month with a formalized proposal regarding how the
Crime Control Board can assist with hiring.
Senior Officer Steve Smith explained to the board that since last month they have had 399 work orders
with 326 approved. 123 residential fences have been tagged. Graffiti task force made I arrest.
Unfinished business - legal opinion on whether board members can participate in public comment -
Police legal advisor Joseph Brice advised that it is not prohibited, but strongly* discourages board
members from speaking in the public comment portion of the agenda.

Trainee proposal- internship program
Adding 5 cadets into the academy*
No public comments
