CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:35 p.m. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second
by Mr. Johnson to approve the minutes of August 15, 2012 as printed. Motion carried, 6/0.
Diana Naranjo with the Juvenile Assessment Center gave an update:
• 42 violations for August 2012(6 day, 36 night)
• 43 Urinalysis Testing done for August 2012(20 male, 23 female)
• Lifeskills training is being provided at various CCISD schools
Chief s Report:
• Reduction in murders, to date there are 7. This time last year there were 15.
• Summer Crime Initiative ran from 5125112 to 9/3/12. Overall focus AN on quality of life issues.
1. Several goals Ayere identified for this initiative that included targeting and reducing juvenile crimes,
burglaries, auto burglaries, UUMV, traffic, probation absconders, parole violators, juvenile directives
to apprehend, and prevention.
2. The crimes of burglary, auto burglary, and UUMV iyere combated by using several different tactics
once a "hot spot" was discovered.
3. The traffic section of uniform has increased their presence on the highways in order to reduce the
speeds of motorist in order to decrease the amount of traffic accidents.
4. Gang unit: aggressively patrol areas, neighborhoods, and bars known to have a high incidence of gang
activity, and target the most violent gangs to reduce crime. The number of driyebys compared to the
same time period last year was riyo thirds feiyer.
Constance Sanchez gave the financial report:
• Annual Revenue for the 1 month ended August 31, 2012 -YTD actual $544,239.19.
• Sales Tax Actuals- $544,239.19, 20.5% above what was budgeted and 26.5 % over last year.
• Appropriations and expenditures- $492,11696
Steve Smith reported there iyere 2 graffiti arrests since last meeting. The Crime Control members would like to
commend the graffiti team with cake and cookies at the next meeting.
Pat Eldridge explained the request for Rinds to establish the Police Trainee Internship program. This will alloy for
the hiring of an applicant prior to the start of an academy. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr.
Staff to provide $210,000 for the program for FY2013. Motion carried, 6/0.
Ms. Eldridge explained the second request for Rinds to hire five additional trainees into the January 2013 academy.
Mr. Staff asked and Ms. Eldridge confirmed that once the trainees graduate from the academy, they are to be moved
into the general fund. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Johnson to provide $145,000 for the
program. Motion carried, 6/0.
A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Staff to provide $75,000 for the purchase of 59 tasers.
Motion carried, 6/0.
Ms. Eldridge explained that the recommendations will now go to the City Council to appropriate the Rinds.
