HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 08/21/2013 MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2013 CITY HALL, 1sT FLOOR COUNCIL CHAMBERS Members Present Estela Garcia Randy Maldonado Randy Hicks Susie Luna Saldana Cecil Johnson Mike Staff Scott Leeton David Torres The meeting was called to order by Susie Luna Saldana at 2:35 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Staff and second by Mrs. Garcia to approve the amended minutes from July 17, 2013 meeting. Motion carried 8/0. Captain Bowers gave the crime report and stated the following: • Violent crime is down 6.5%Year to date. • Homicide numbers are up year to date. Chief Simpson talked about the Stop Aggressive Driving Initiative (S.A.D). Under the SAD Initiative 1800 citations have been issued to drivers, 150 of these were for aggressive driving. Chief Simpson gave the following report on officer staffing: • 72"d Police Academy*graduation to be held on August 9, 2013 • 73rd Police Academy*will begin on August 26, 2013 with 11 women and 19 men. • August 9"'the total number of officers will be 426 • 33 officers left the department last year Chief Simpson advised the department determines officer staffing using workload and population. Constance Sanchez gave the unaudited financial report and stated the following: • Total estimated revenue is 4.26%above budgeted amount • Sales tax revenues were 4.5%above budgeted amount • Sales tax revenues are 9.63%higher than FY 12 Diana Naranjo gave the following report regarding the Juvenile Assessment Center: • Curfew violation intakes were 330 for the year,mostly*male. • The month of JuIv had the lowest number of intakes • Life Skills Training for FY 2013 had over 7,800 participant hours Senior Officer Steve Smith stated that since last meeting 2 arrests for graffiti have been made. 213 street signs and 110 residential fences have been vandalized by acts of graffiti. Currently*there are a total of 540 approved work orders in the system. Items to be placed on next month's agenda: • City cameras update The meeting was adjourned at 3:37 p.m
