HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 07/15/2015 Minutes Crime Control and Prevention District Wednesday July 15,2015 City Hall,61"Floor Conference Room Members Present Randall Hicks Judy Loverde Zelner Houchin Susie Luna Saldana Raymond Lara Jesse Olivares Scott Leeton The meeting was called to order by Ms. Luna Saldana at 2:33 p.m. A motion was made by Mr. Leeton and second by Mr.Lara to approve the minutes of June 17,2015 as printed; motion carried 510; Judy Loverde and Jesse Olivares arrived after this vote transpired. Assistant Chief Gutierrez gave updates on the new recruits. We will hire 25 new cadets for the academy to start in November of 2015. The Board asked about the process of hiring a new Chief of Police. A nationwide search will be done once they choose a search firm. Capt. Bowers explained the violent crimes number resulted from domestic violence which is difficult to manage. The Police Department is looking for resources to assist these victims at the time of the incident before they change their minds about filing. The following are some statistics from his report: • Violent crime statistics show an increase of 12.12%and non-violent crime is decreased by 26.18%year to date. • The murder totals show are at 12 same as last year. Lt. Chris Hooper gave a brief review of the Pawn Shop Detail. He will bring the employees to the next meeting to introduce them to the Board.He also gave an example of how the software"Leads Online"along with a pawn shop employee assisted in apprehending a suspect. A total of$70,000 worth of property was recovered for the month of May,2015. There was no City Auditor Report. Alma Casas gave the financial report for the month ending May 2015. • 50.53%of the total budget for Org.411711 was expended. • Annual revenue estimate collected is at 1.87%compared to previous year actual. David Prado with the Juvenile Assessment Center gave an update for the month of June 2015. There were 19 curfew violations(11 males, 8 females)6 occurred during the day and 13 occurred at night. Ms. Loverde would like to see more of the older students participate in the Life skills training. Mr. Hicks questioned their database and its integrity for the student's information. The Parks and Recreation Department has a new Director,Jay Ellington. Sen. Ofcr. Christopher Alejandro with Graffiti Task Force advised they had 395 work orders last month and 2 arrests were made. Grace Gonzales represented Carlos Gonzalez,Director of Facilities with the updated status of the security project. The only modification was reducing the trellis' to one from originally proposed two. The project is on schedule. The Legal Advisor Buck Brice responded to questions regarding the use of CCD funds for the 2016 election. He distributed a handout of his findings.
