HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 09/16/2015 Minutes Crime Control and Prevention District Wednesday September 16,2015 City Hall,61"Floor Conference Room Members Present Randall Hicks Judy Loverde Zelner Houchin Susie Luna Saldana Raymond Lara Jesse Olivares Scott Leeton Bradley Tindall The meeting was called to order by Ms. Luna Saldana at 2:35 p.m. Director of Facilities Mr. Carlos Gonzalez went over the Police Department parking lot project and handed out detailed drawings and a timeline detail. The bidding process will start soon and the whole project should be completed no later than September of 2016. Cmdr.Houston gave an update on the other one time expenditures. Due to not being able to spend all the funds in FYI for the Police building project, a motion was made by Randy Hicks and second by Mr.Leeton to amend the FY2015-2016 Crime Control and Prevention District budget adopted on June 17,2015 to include expenditures of$514,001 for the improvements to the Police building. Motion carried 8/0. A motion was made by Mr.Tindall and second by Mr. Leeton to approve the minutes from the August 4,2015 meeting. The motion carried 8/0. Interim Chief Markle gave an update on the upcoming academies. The 73rd academy is almost finished with their FTO training,the 74'academy will be graduating October Stn and the 75th academy will start November 16, 2015 with 28 cadets. Lt. Mangum reviewed the crime report: • Violent crime statistics show an increase of 5.20%year to date and non-violent crime shows a decrease of 23.91%year to date. There are two unsolved murders this year with a total of 14 murders year to date. Constance Sanchez gave the financial report for the 10 months ending July 2015. • 60.29%of the total budget expended. • Annual revenue collected is at 95%compared to previous year actual. David Prado with the Juvenile Assessment Center gave an update for the month of August 2015. • 27 curfew violations(18 males,9 females) 18 occurred at night and 9occurred during the day. • 41 drug tests were performed-28 males and 13 females. 19 returned positive for marijuana and all others were negative results. Senior Officer Alejandro gave the graffiti update of 334 work orders generated for August compared to 399 for July with 3 arrests for the month of August. Pat Eldridge distributed a flyer to be placed in the utility billing in the spring with information regarding the successes of the Crime Control and Prevention District.The board discussed different ideas about advertising and educating the public in anticipation of the election November of 2016. Items to be placed on the next agenda: 1) Ideas on events to educate the public about Crime Control and Prevention. 2) Solidify calendars for events. There were no public comments.
