HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 11/18/2015 Minutes Crime Control and Prevention District Wednesday November 18,2015 City Hall,61"Floor Conference Room Members Present Randall Hicks Jesse Olivares Zelner Houchin Susie Luna Saldana Raymond Lara Bradly Tindall Scott Leeton Joan Veith Judy Loverde The meeting was called to order by Ms. Luna Saldana at 2:33 p.m. A motion was made by Ms.Veith and second by Mr.Randall Hicks to approve the minutes from the October 21, 2015 meeting. The motion carried 8/0. (Mr.Leeton was not present for this vote) Constance Sanchez gave the financial report for the 12 months ending September 30,2015. • 73.81%of the total budget expended • Annual revenue collected is at 94.72% Interim Chief Markle gave an update on the Police building security/beautification project. The canopy has been demolished and the painting of the building is complete. We are currently waiting on City Engineering for guidance about the building structure and louvres issue. There is one entrance coming in from the Chaparral Street side and one exit through the Water Street side. We will kick off the Holiday Crime Initiative on Black Friday and will be going over safety tips. Lieutenant Mangum reviewed the crime report: • Violent crime statistics show a decrease of 6.38% year to date and non-violent crime shows an increase of 17.70%year to date. David Prado with the Juvenile Assessment Center gave a presentation on their long term goals and direction as requested by Ms. Luna-Saldana. The following is an update for the month of October 2015. • 88 curfew violations 9 occurred at night and 79 occurred during the day. • 52 drug tests were performed(33 males and 19 females); 10 returned positive for marijuana and one was positive for amphetamines. Senior Officer Alejandro gave the graffiti update of 350 work orders generated for October. Offenders that are in the middle of a sentence and turn 18 have been falling through the crack and not continuing with their punishment. They are trying to remedy that situation. An item to place on the next agenda is CCPD appreciation ideas. During public comment time,Mr.Hicks wanted to recognize Arlene Cordell and Betsy Pimentel for doing a great job educating the public about Crime Control during various events. The Crime Prevention Advisors gave a report and showed the board members the informative flyers they have been handing out to citizens during various events. Mr.Leeton brought up an idea to advertise during the Lago Show and Ms.Eldridge reminded everyone that city employees are limited as to what can be said about the Crime Control election. Interim Chief Markle brought up an idea to photograph the eight interns doing various training routines to show the public what they are doing for the community. A motion was made by Mr. Leeton and second by Mr.Houchin to skip the December meeting. The motion carried 9/0. This meeting was adjourned by Ms. Luna Saldana at 3:28 p.m.
