CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT
MARCH 27 , 2001

At the conclusion of the joint meeting with the City Council,
the meeting of the Crime Control District was called to order by
President Loeb. The Public Hearing meeting date of April 18,
2001, at 5: 30 p.m. was confirmed. The Board will adopt the
budget at this meeting.
Cmdr. Torres was announced as Cmdr. Smith' s replacement while he
is at the FBI National Academy.
Abel Alonzo commented on the 50-officer plan.
Mr. Garza stated that the Board should try to report their
accomplishments to the public more often. Cmdr. Smith commented
on making informing videos. Ms . Bridges suggested a video be
made before the public hearing. Mr. Valencia suggested using a
human-interest story from the Juvenile Assessment Center. Cmdr.
Smith said he would talk with Ted Nelson to inquire about video
bites and Ms . Eldridge said she would meet with Susan Cable to
have her update the year three project review and schedule for a
utility bill insert .
Cmdr. Smith reported that the year three project review would be
available for the public hearing.

The Board began discussion of the advertising/promotion for the
next election. Suggestions were made that the Corpus Christi
Police Officers Association assist in pushing the vote. Mr.
Valencia said he would look into the suggestion since they
supported it at the last election.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2 : 00
p.m.
