Houston Minerva Sanchez, Texas A&M Dr. Phil Rhoades, Texas A&M Tony Alejandro, Transportation Advisory Committee Stuart Sher, Transportation Advisory Committee Clif Moss, Transportation Advisory Committee The meeting was called to order by President Loeb. The minutes to the April 18, 2001, Public Hearing and meeting were approved. Mr. Valencia welcomed Vicky Alexander, Council Member Bill Kelly' s appointment to the Board. Mr. Alejandro, Transportation Advisory Committee, began his presentation on radar units . He said the Committee believes that the Police Department should have the ability for all patrol officers at any given time to be able to enforce the city' s traffic laws . Out of the 115 assigned patrol vehicles only 31 are equipped with radar. In addition to the 31 radar units there are 10 handheld radar assigned to the division. He said 74 units do not have radar units in them. He stated the Transportation Advisory Committee would like the Board to consider funding 74 radar packages to ensure that every marked unit on patrol is radar-equipped. He said the cost would be 1 SCANNED $1, 700 per unit for 74 units amounting to $125, 800 . Mr. Loeb said operationally this item would have to be an amendment to the 2002 budget so he suggested that each Board member contact their Council Member to get their perspective on it . It could be put on the next agenda as an action item. Mr. Harty presented the Financial Report. He said revenues are slightly down this quarter. Ms. Eldridge told the Board that on May 29`" the Crime Control District budget is on the City Council agenda . The City Council will hold a public hearing on May l9°". Mr. Loeb stressed the importance of the City Council adopting the budget that the Board took action on and if it requires an amendment, then one should be submitted. He said he has a problem with the budget being changed after the Board has published and approved it as an attachment to the notice. Cmdr. Torres reported on the progress of the Citizen Advisory Councils. He said funds are needed for the acquisition of lumber for abandoned homes. Mr. Loeb said there is $4, 762 . 85 at the end of April available in the Citizen Advisory Council funds . Cmdr. Torres said they are in the process of hiring an additional Directed Patrol officer bringing the total to eight. Mr. Loeb suggested that businesses within the community with common interests and problems be contacted concerning meetings being conducted similar to the Citizen Advisory Councils . Dr. Rhoades updated the Board on the evaluation process . He said there should be a final report within the next two weeks . Ms. Boone told the Board that the Assessment Center is now connected to Municipal Court. No further business, the meeting adjourned at 4 : 03 p.m. 2
