Mr. Valencia welcomed Vicky Alexander, Council Member Bill
Kelly' s appointment to the Board.
Mr. Alejandro, Transportation Advisory Committee, began his
presentation on radar units . He said the Committee believes
that the Police Department should have the ability for all
patrol officers at any given time to be able to enforce the
city' s traffic laws . Out of the 115 assigned patrol vehicles
only 31 are equipped with radar. In addition to the 31 radar
units there are 10 handheld radar assigned to the division. He
said 74 units do not have radar units in them. He stated the
Transportation Advisory Committee would like the Board to
consider funding 74 radar packages to ensure that every marked
unit on patrol is radar-equipped. He said the cost would be
1 SCANNED
$1, 700 per unit for 74 units amounting to $125, 800 . Mr. Loeb
said operationally this item would have to be an amendment to
the 2002 budget so he suggested that each Board member contact
their Council Member to get their perspective on it . It could
be put on the next agenda as an action item.
Mr. Harty presented the Financial Report. He said revenues are
slightly down this quarter.

District budget is on the City Council agenda . The City Council

importance of the City Council adopting the budget that the
Board took action on and if it requires an amendment, then one
should be submitted. He said he has a problem with the budget
being changed after the Board has published and approved it as
an attachment to the notice.
Cmdr. Torres reported on the progress of the Citizen Advisory
Councils. He said funds are needed for the acquisition of
lumber for abandoned homes. Mr. Loeb said there is $4, 762 . 85 at
the end of April available in the Citizen Advisory Council

additional Directed Patrol officer bringing the total to eight.

being conducted similar to the Citizen Advisory Councils .
