CITY HALL BASEMENT TRAINING ROOM Members Present : _ W. L. Hermis Linda Bridges Larry Baker Vicky Alexander John Heldenfels, Jr . Isaac Valencia Butch Poole Others Present : Cmdr. B. Smith Pat Eldridge Chief P. Alvarez, Jr. Capt . J. Houston Mariah Boone, Assessment Center Mario Tapia Mike Harty Steve Zastrow The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Valencia. Cmdr. Smith introduced the newest Board member, Butch Poole (appointed by Brent Chesney) . Cmdr. Smith said Benny Hernandez was another new member but was not present at this meeting. First order of business conducted was the election of Linda Bridges to replace Leon Loeb as Chairperson. Election of a Vice-Chairperson and Secretary will be conducted at the next meeting. The minutes for June 13, 2001, were unanimously approved. Mr. Harty presented the finance director report . The sales tax revenues for June amounted to $277, 729. The Board approved the purchase of a walking motor moped in the amount of $1, 899 to replace the one that was totaled while parked in the Police parking lot . The Board approved the purchase of 37 radar units for a total cost of $65, 823 . Ms . Eldridge said a bid would be prepared and SCANNED 1 4111, V 14100 J this item will be placed on the City Council agenda for ' approval . The Board discussed the sales tax election date. Cmdr. Smith said there are two options: one being a special election in April 2002 or going with the general election in November 2002 . The Board decided to meet with their respective Council member and discuss these two options with them. Ms . Bridges also suggested that they have additional discussion with their Council member as to the length. Cmdr. Smith said that staff is trying to come up with a recommendation that is balanced which is ten years . Ms . Bridges said that a decision should be made by the August 15th meeting and discussed with the City Council at the August 21st joint meeting. Ms . Boone said that Crime Control funding after August 1st for the PSA' s would be in the middle of the campaign but it would still work. Ms. Bridges said that the funding item would be placed on the Board' s agenda for August 15th. Ms . Boone distributed "Get Educated" bumper stickers and said that she has a PSA for the Board to review. Ms . Boone said the Title V grant should be on the Council agenda, next week along with incentive block grant, which will connect the Assessment Center and Municipal Court with the school districts. Cmdr. Smith reported the Property Recovery Unit reached the $1 million mark in recovered property and the Directed Patrol program continues to move forward. He said the August utility bill would have a three-year update on the District . There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3: 43 p.m. 2
