CITY HALL BASEMENT TRAINING ROOM Members Present : Vicky Alexander Larry Baker Linda Bridges W.L. Hermis Rose Marie Soto Isaac Valencia Others Present : Mariah Boone Jorge Cruz-Aedo Pat Eldridge Mike Harty Cmdr. Bryan Smith Mario Tapia Dan Whitworth The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Linda Bridges . The minutes for August 15, 2001, were unanimously approved. Mr. Harty presented the finance director report . The sales tax revenues for July amounted to $344, 629. Cmdr. Smith discussed the meetings with CCISD regarding the revised Dare Program. He stated the project is proceeding on schedule. Cmdr. Smith discussed the Flour Bluff cleanup project remarking that it was too large an area. The next cleanup is scheduled in Annaville and will be a smaller area. He further discussed the boarding up project will enlist the help of Moody High School students, but they are in need of a generator and a compressor. It was suggested that the equipment be rented until we can further assess the need to purchase the equipment . Cmdr. Smith distributed a revised list of directed patrol officers and stated we still do not have enough cell phones for each officer. Since so much airtime is currently being donated by Cingular, Cmdr. Smith suggested contacting other SCANNED `r 'b V 1110 companies for further donations. He will update this next month. Mariah Boone gave an update on the Juvenile Assessment Center and the Title V Grant. The new Juvenile Court will be opening in the next two months in the office space located next door to the center. Vickie Alexander requested an update on the purchase of radars. Pat Eldridge stated they will be sent to Purchasing for bid preparation next week. Vickie Alexander requested statistics on the Directed Patrol Program such as number of houses boarded, number of drug arrests, etc. Cmdr. Smith stated he will review and prepare a monthly report . Linda Bridges requested an update on the required resolution to announce the Crime Control District sales tax election. It will be placed on the agenda next month for consideration. Next month' s meeting will be changed to October 24, 2001. The impact of the 911 tragedy and the subsequent callup of military reserves was discussed. Cmdr. Smith said that only as a last resort will the DPO' s be utilized to fill vacant positions in patrol . The meeting was adjourned at 3 : 00 p.m.
