Domingo Ibarra Steve Zastrow Sr. Off. Russell McNorton The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Linda Bridges. The minutes for September 19, 2001, were approved as recorded. Mr. Harty presented the finance director report. He stated they did not include the overtime for the Juvenile Assessment Center for September. He also asked about the police overtime and was that going to be eliminated since no funds were budgeted. Mariah Boone gave a report on the Deputy Marshall positions that will be taking over the security from the Police Department as soon as the positions are filled. At that time the overtime will be discontinued. Cmdr. Brian Smith presented a proposal to replace two police package marked vehicles taken out of service due to wreck damage and mechanical problems. On a motion by Valencia, second by Soto, the Board approved $45, 438 for the purchase of the two vehicles . The issue of budgeting for replacement vehicles was discussed as three other units are high mileage and should be replaced. Cmdr. Smith presented a proposal to purchase cellular phones from Nextel if the current vendor Cingular should 1 SCANNED IOW Si %110 411110 not be able to provide the additional phones needed for Directed Patrol Officers . Currently Cingular is providing airtime free of charge, but has not agreed to supply the additional phones. The Board approved $3, 200 to purchase cellular phones from Nextel only if Cmdr. Smith could not negotiate a deal with Cingular. Cmdr. Smith presented a proposal to purchase PSA' s for an Anti-Prostitution Campaign to be produced by Quadrant Productions. The Board approved up to $3, 010 for the production. Cmdr. Smith gave a Power Point presentation on a recent clean up by the Directed Patrol Officers. David Morris and Russell McNorton also presented a community project to demolish and rebuild the Clara Driscoll baseball field located at Baldwin and Agnes. Abel Alonzo expressed his appreciation and support for the project . There will be a joint meeting with the City Council on December 18 at which time a motion from the Board will be presented calling for an election in November 2002 to continue the CCD sales tax. A motion will be drafted and presented at the next Board meeting for approval . Cmdr. Smith distributed activity sheets from the DPO' s. The Board stated they did not need as much detail as was presented, but wanted the number of arrests, citations, etc. Isaac Valencia stated he would like to have the same type of information from the JET, Bike, and Walking Motor units. The next meeting will be held at the Police Department with an early tour of the 911 center beginning at 2 : 00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 3 :30 pm. 2
