Pat Eldridge reviewed the budget adoption calendar and stated the Board would have the
proposed FY 02/03 budget at the next meeting. Linda Bridges asked if we were also preparing a
five year proforma. Staff responded they are preparing a five year proforma for the board's
review. Butch Pool asked if Forward Corpus Christi had been approached regarding their
support for the district and the election. Linda Bridges responded not yet. She requested each
Board member to contact their Council member to get their opinion regarding the 5 or 10 year
option. She also stated she would like an action item on the next agenda to adopt either the 5 or
10 year plan.
Cmdr. Smith presented a proposal to purchase a laptop computer and projector for use by the
Directed Patrol Officers as well as by board members and staff for the upcoming election. The
board approved $7,000 for the purchase. Motion by Pool, Baker second.
Cmdr. Smith stated the Directed Patrol Officers recently completed a Crime Prevention Course
which will help integrate them into their community policing duties. He further stated the FCAL
(special coating on street signs) project is progressing well. An estimated $4,500 has been spent
and has proven to save numerous manhours and cleaning of signs that can now merely be wiped
off with Windex. He stated the neighborhood residents are cleaning the signs in some areas.
Linda Bridges inquired about the Community Policing Van and anticipated delivery. Chief
Alvarez stated it will arrive on January 17 and that it will still require decaling. Linda Bridges
requested the Crime Control logo be placed on the van since the district provided partial funding
toward the purchase. Chief Alvarez agreed to do so and further stated there will be an open
house and other advertising when the van is ready. The Chief reviewed the proposed storefront
area offered by the WalMart on Greenwood to promote community policing.
