Hermis Larry Baker Butch Pool Linda Bridges Rose Marie Soto John Heldenfels Chairperson Linda Bridges called the meeting to order. The minutes for the May 8, 2002 meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Baker, second by Ms. Alexander. Adel Rowland presented the Finance Directors report. She reviewed the deficit situation in org 11711 and stated it was due to $103,450 approved for additional vehicles in December not being added to the budget system. Ms. Bridges asked about the sales tax percentage being only 75% when it should be 83%; Ms. Rowland stated the sales tax figures are one month behind and the district is actually 2% over the collection projection. Ms. Bridges stated the City Council approved the FY 02/03 budget on June 18 with no questions or issues raised. Regarding the upcoming election, Ms. Bridges stressed the value of doing presentations to the public as well as to the City Council. She suggested doing a monthly presentation to Council beginning in July with projects such as canine, JAC, etc. She would like to see four presentations before the November election. She also distributed a sign up list for those who would be available to speak at any meetings regarding the election. Cindy O'Brien from the Budget office stated the City Council will discuss the upcoming election at the next Council meeting and the City Manager requested the presence of the Board to answer any questions. Ms. Bridges asked that the order to call for an election be placed on the Crime Control Board agenda for July 17, 2002. Ms. Eldridge displayed the yellow boards purchased for use at board ups funded by the District. Capt. John Houston gave a presentation on the Directed Patrol Officers, specifically the Lamar Project. Officer McNorton reported on the donation of bikes from a local company. Mariah Boone reported on the success of the recent Truancy Summit. Ms. Bridges distributed a history of expenditures for the district Chief Alvarez asked if any employee could speak on the election. Mr. Zastrow stated employees can talk of information, but cannot advise anyone to vote on the project. They serve as a reference of information on the project only. Ms. Bridges asked about distributing information at Bayfest. Ms. Alexander said the FOP Auxiliary will have a booth and she will ask if we can make information available. Ms. Eldridge stated a list of present Crime Control Districts across the state with associated percentages would be available at the next meeting.
