Vice-Chairperson Larry Baker called the meeting to order. The minutes for the June 19, 2002
meeting were approved on a motion by Ms. Soto, second by Mr. Pool.
Constance Sanchez presented the Finance Directors report. Mr. Baker asked if the revenues were
still on target. Cindy O'Brien stated we would meet and possibly exceed budget projections. Mr.
Pool asked when the Police academy began and the projected start of the next academy. Mr.
Valencia asked what the Support Personnel Other Pay consisted of; Ms. Eldridge stated it is
items such as vacation buy back.
Mr. Baker stated the City Council approved placing the renewal of the Crime Control District on
the ballot and now the Board must call for the election. He read the order calling for the election
and it was approved on a motion by Mr. Valencia, second by Pool. Under discussion Ms.
Alexander asked if State Law mandated the verbiage provided in the order. Mr. Zastrow advised
it was.
Cmdr. Smith distributed the breakdown of the fifty CCD sworn personnel as per assignment. The
report reflected so many officers assigned to Bicycle Patrol, Jet, etc.
Capt. John Houston presented a power point presentation on the Lamar neighborhood clean up
by the Directed Patrol Officers. Cmdr. Smith also distributed the funding savings realized by the
Directed Patrol officers purchasing the board up materials and using labor from the Nueces
County Department of Adult Probation.
The City Council presentation schedule for projects will be August 27 for the Juvenile
Enforcement Team and September 24 for the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Ms. Eldridge advised the utility bill insert Project Review for Year 4 is scheduled for September
rather than August.
Cmdr. Smith reminded Board members of National Night Out on August 6 and encouraged them
to attend the block parties.
Mariah Boone distributed a letter from a mother praising a case manager at the Assessment
Center. She also stated the JET officers have been very helpful to the case managers by
attending some of their site visits_ She further stated the Municipal Juvenile Court is considering
moving to a larger space and would like the JAC to move with them. This is in the preliminary
stages.

Ms. Eldridge stated the information notebook regarding the other CCD's in the state has been
completed and anyone may look through for information.
Vicky Alexander asked for a complete listing of street lighting improvements and street hump
additions.
Mr. Pool asked if the Board was going to have Texas A&M/CC prepare another evaluation. Ms.
Eldridge stated the other districts have satisfied this requirement through quarterly reports and
presentations.
Being no further business, Mr. Baker adjourned the meeting at 130 pm.
