Chairperson Linda Bridges called the meeting to order. The minutes for the July 17, 2002
meeting were approved on a motion by Mr. Pool, second by Mr. Heldenfels.
Under public comment, Abel Alonzo praised the Board for doing a great job. He did voice his
concern that the district will be lost on the ballot and offered his TV show and his services to
help promote the district renewal
The Board was presented the election services contract between the City, District, and Nueces
County for a vote. The contract was approved on a motion by Ms. Alexander, second by Mr.
Pool.
The agenda for the joint meeting with City Council on August 27 was discussed. Ms. Bridges
asked if any other items should be included on the agenda. Ms. Alexander suggested thanking
Council member Kelly for suggesting the District be placed first on the ballot. Cmdr. Smith
would like to discuss the monies that have been saved by the various projects, i.e. Assessment
Center and Directed Patrol. Mr. Pool asked if we could recognize the Directed Patrol Officers
for the monies they have saved. Cmdr. Smith stated he would work on a presentation for next
month's City Council presentation on the Assessment Center.
The Board was advised of a vacant position in the Pawn Shop Detail and a proposal to use these
funds to extend the other two positions through the fiscal year, rather than have the positions
removed the end of March 2003. The proposal was approved on a motion by Mr. Heldenfels,
second by Mr. Pool.
Dr. Phil Rhodes presented an update on delinquency risk factors in Nueces County.
Ms. Bridges reviewed the calendar of events and requested each member to try to attend.
Capt. John Houston gave a presentation on the Northside Manor cleanup.
The next presentation to the City Council will be September 24 and will focus on the Juvenile
Assessment Center. October 22 will be the display of 50 police officers.
Ms. Eldridge stated she and Cmdr. Smith would be traveling to San Antonio on September 9 to
give a presentation to the Crime Commission on our District. They are preparing to possibly get
a district on the ballot.
Ms. Boone distributed the annual report for the Juvenile Assessment Center.
Being no further business, Ms. Bridges adjourned the meeting at 4:25 pm_
