J Ps `o - Crime Control and Prevention District September 18, 2002 Members Present: Vicky Alexander Danny Mom Larry Baker Rose Marie Soto Linda Bridges Irani-Valencia W. L. Hennis Chairperson Linda Bridges called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm. The minutes from the 8/21, 8/27,and 8/27 joint meeting with City Council were approved on a motion by Mr. Baker, second by Ms. Soto. Ms. Bridges gave an update on the referendum calendar and asked members to try to attend the scheduled events. Ms. Eldridge distributed an analysis of the sworn staffing levels in the Police Department. On a motion by Mr. Valencia, second by Ms.Alexander, an additional$5,693 was approved for an enhancement of the video imaging system. The funding will provide for management software to allow computer support personnel to troubleshoot from the main system rather than having to go to each laptop. Ms. Constance Sanchez distributed the monthly financial reports. Mr. Valencia asked if the Juvenile City Marshals were on overtime or permanent staff and Ms. Boone replied they are permanent staff. The financials were approved on a motion by Ms. Alexander, second by Mr.Valencia. Ms. Sanchez further stated the FY 2001/2002 year-end report would not be ready until possibly the November or December meeting. Cmdr. Smith reviewed the North side Manor project. A building is being donated for an art center,but approximately$3,000 is needed for remodeling. Ms. Bridges asked that a proposal be brought to the board at the October meeting. Ms. Bridges asked Cmdr. Smith to contact the CCISD library and City library to see if they may possibly donate old books to the North side Manor library. Mr. Valencia asked about the progress on the Westside ballpark. Cmdr. Smith stated the Police Department is working on establishing a Police Athletic League(PAL)and this organization will continue working on the project. Cmdr. Smith stated drug dealers from the north side have moved to the Westside Molina area. The problem is being addressed. He further reviewed the status of board ups and the signs using FCAL in the area. Cmdr. Smith reported on the trip to San Antonio where a presentation was made to their Crime Commission on our Crime Control District. They are considering a district and requested our input as well as Fort Worth PD. Cmdr. Smith advised the Board of a press conference on Monday, 12:00 noon, Ramada Inn on Shoreline for a presentation of plaques to those organizations who have partnered with the DPO's in cleanups.
