Mr. Pool called the meeting to order at 2:31 pm.
The minutes from October 19 were approved, moved by Mr. Martinez, second by Mr. Kucera.
Cindy O'Brien reviewed the financials stating that revenue is at 108%of budget and
expenditures are well within projections, at 22%while we are 25%into the fiscal year. Overtime
is over budget possibly due to Hurricane Katrina and other special events such as Bayfest. Both
of these events will be reimbursed.
Cmdr. Smith reported the Pawn Shop detail is fully staffed and operational. He also reported the
Graffiti Wipe Out is making a dent in the problem along with assistance from the Junior League,
the Volunteer Center, and Judge Joe Gonzales who has been sending his violators to wipe out
graffiti.
Cmdr. Smith reported on the efforts of Juvenile Enforcement Team(JET). They have identified
known gang members, and continue a close working relationship with two gang prosecutors at
the County and with the U.S.Marshall Office. Fifteen gang members were rounded up recently
on warrants. JET is also utilizing a state law allowing the department to seize vehicles fleeing
from police. They have had 26 vehicles seized this year.
The attrition rate and number of officers was discussed as to how it relates to the next election.
Vicki Alexander discussed the new City Council Youth Advisory Committee. Applications were
distributed.
Under public comment, Sr. Officer Domingo %arra spoke.
Mr. Pool adjourned the meeting at 3:55 pm.
