HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 02/15/2006 4100 (144 MINUTES CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION D$-PICT 2:30 P.M.WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 15,2006 ; CITY HALL,6 FLOOR CONFRENCE ROOM 1;A[ 2000 Members Present cli�;�� Vicky Alexander John Martinez U' Mike Hummell Butch Pool Cecil Johnson Rene Saenz Scott Kucera Mr. Pool called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. The minutes of January 18, 2006 were approved, moved by Mrs. Alexander, second by Mr. Kucera. Cindy O'Brien reviewed the financials; she stated that the revenue was well - year to date $87,000 more than budgeted. With 6 (six) months into the budget year, the expenditures are 46%higher year to date. Cmdr. Smith discussed moving the CCD election from November, 2007 to November, 2006. He explained that if the Corpus Christi Crime Control and Prevention District is the only thing on the ballot then the election fees would be larger than normal elections with other entities on the ballot. Cmdr. Smith felt that no action should be taken at this time and the Board members should talk with their respective council members to discuss moving the election date and explain what the Crime Control and Prevention District has done and show them what they project for the coming years. Several members were in favor of placing the Crime Control and Prevention District on the ballot for a ten year plan. Mrs. Alexander presented a proposal from the Corpus Christi Youth Advisory Council to send 6 youths and 2 adults to the Annual Youth Crime Prevention Conference in Utah. Mr. Hummell moved and Mr. Martinez second to give an amount not to exceed $1,700 toward the conference, subject to approval by the City Legal Department. Motion carried, 7/0. Mariah Boone presented the Juvenile Assessment Center second quarter report. This is the JAC seventh(7)year of operation. Commander Smith explained that the cadets in the current academy will be graduating on March 10, 2006 and the next academy will commence in April of 2006. Mr. Martinez expressed an interest in Community Policing and how they can look into programs where they can implement them with Mr. Domingo Ibarra, president of the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association. Mr. Domingo Ibarra, President of the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association addressed the board regarding community policing and how some changes could be made to be more efficient. A motion was made by Mrs. Alexander and second by Mr. Martinez to adjourn the meeting at 3:52 p.m. Motion carried. 7/0. SCANNED C /l ttt 'NED
