CRIME CONTROL AM)PREVENTION DISTRICT

Mr. Pool called the public hearing on FY 2007/2008 budget to order at 6:15 p.m. Mr. Abel Alonzo
complimented the board on how well they had handled the financials.
The public hearing was closed at 6:21 p.m.
Mr. Pool called the regular meeting to order at 6:21 p.m. Minutes of March 21, 2007 were approved as
printed. Motion carried.
The revised 2007/2008 budget was adopted. Motion carried. Ms. Eldridge explained it will now be
forwarded to the City Council for their approval.
Cindy O'Brien gave the treasurers report. Sales tax revenue is up over last year and expenditures are on
target for the year.
Chief Bung explained that the Graffiti eradication truck was being assembled and waiting for inspection
in El Paso. After inspection,the delivery time for the truck would be one to two weeks.
Chief Smith discussed the status of projects that the police department is working on. The stop sticks are
being marked and put into patrol cars for use. Training for the taser project should begin the 1ffi or 2n4
week in May.
Chief Smith explained that there will be an increase in combined activity between the sheriffs
department and the police department. He also explained that there will be a co-location with DEA to
increase the enforcement efforts of the special services division.
Valerie Villarreal explained that the pilot program with the city recreation center is going well. One (1)
social worker is going out to three (3) recreation centers. The social worker is reaching out to 25 to 30
kids each week and teaching life skills to those kids. The pilot program is in the 3rd week. The social
worker is reaching out to at risk parents and to low income housing.
Joseph Harney explained to the board members that there is nothing in the legislation that determines
their term limits and therefore, it defaults back to the city charter. The city charter explains that terns for
boards/commissions is 6 years. Mr.Harney explained that all membership terms are still valid all the way
through the next crime control meeting in May. The next council will be officially seated on May 22.
