Scott Kucera called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
Board members and city staff were introduced.
Wilbur Hermis made a motion and Nancy Nemer second nominating Scott Kucera for
Chairman of the Crime Control and Prevention District. Motion carried. 9/0
A motion was made by Nancy Nemer and second by Scott Kucera nominating Wilbur
Hermis for Vice Chairman of the Crime Control and Prevention District. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Scott Kucera and second by Nancy Nemer nominating Daniel
Dain for secretary of the Crime Control and Prevention District. Motion carried. 9/0
A motion was made by Nancy Nemer and second by Estela Garcia to approve the
minutes of May 16, 2007 as printed. Motion carried. 9/0
Scott Kucera mentioned that the graffiti truck was unveiled at Cole Park before this
meeing. Chief Smith explained that the graffiti truck was purchased by the Crime
Control and Prevention District $77,000. Chief Smith explained that the graffiti truck
was the focal point of wiping out graffiti in Corpus Christi.
Chief Smith explained that the new Records Management System (RMS) would be
online July 16th 2007. This system will allow officers to complete reports in their cars,
track crime faster and give officers real time crime analysis.
Chief explained that the pawn shop detail was going very well.
Chief Smith explained to the members that the tasers will be implemented by Friday June
22nd 2007. Several policy issues had to be addressed prior to the tasers being
implemented. He also mentioned that people don't respond well to the pepper spray,
therefore the taser would be more effective. A presentation on tasers will be given at the
next Crime Control Meeting.

Chief Smith gave a brief summary on stop sticks, an anti pursuit device that deploys
spikes that have holes and deflates tires. The stop sticks are assigned to the patrol car and
not to an officer. He explained that each officer received training on the use of stop
sticks.
Valerie Villarreal from the Juvenile Assessment Cnter explained about the connectivity
project funded by the district. The City of Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi
Independent School District entered into an interlocal agreement to allow the JAC pull up
attendance data and access records on children brought to the center She also mentioned
that a summer pilot program was underway with 250 contacts with one (1) social worker
working in particular areas. The idea was to target kids and their families and provide
intervention as well as prevention.
Chief Smith explained that a history of the crime control along with all the programs that
are involved with the crime control district will be provided at the July meeting.
Cindy O'Brien gave the financial report and explained that the sales tax collected was
more than 3.8 million year to date, with $71,000 over what was budgeted and that
expenditures are under budget. She also explained that the election costs totaled $93,000
with Crime Control paying$50,000,which was less than what was budgeted
Pat Eldridge explained that an open meetings video would need to be seen by members of
the board.
Abel Alonzo welcomed all members and expressed how proud he was to have such
wonderful people on the Crime Control board.
