HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Crime Control And Prevention District - 01/16/2008 111110 h/ MINUTES RECEIVED CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT WEDNESDAY,JANUARY 16,2008 CITY HALL,6rn FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM FEB 1 0 ?LLIG Members Present Daniel Dain Scott Kucera CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE Estela Garcia David Morris Wilbur Hermis David Sauceda Domingo Ibarra Scott Kucera called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. A motion was made by Mrs. Garcia and second by Mr. Sauceda to approve the minutes of December 19, 2007. Motion carried,7/0. Constance Sanchez gave the financial report and explained that Crime Control revenue is above what was budgeted and expenditures are within budget. Captain Mark Schauer with the Corpus Christi Police Department Special Services Division explained that another graffiti truck is being considered. He mentioned that they are using probationers to help with the graffiti cleanup. Captain Schauer explained that they are looking into renting space at the appraisal district to house the graffiti coordinator as well as the senior staff assistant. Valarie Villarreal from the Juvenile Assessment Center explained that the she has hired social workers and is fully staffed at the moment. She went on to explain that it had been difficult keeping staff; therefore she was excited that at the moment they were fully staffed at the JAC. Pat Eldridge explained to the members that the pawn shop detail detectives are concentrating on those pawn shops who are not yet submitting their data electronically. Several small pawn shop owners state it is the cost as well as learning the system that keeps them from purchasing the electronic data. Carolyn Bauch, supervisor of the pawn shop detail, explained that she has gone out to local pawn shops and has been trying to persuade them to purchase the electronic data and educate them about the positive effects that the system would provide for their business. She explained that 3 out of the 11 pawn shops here in Corpus Christi are still not linked up to the electronic data system. Domingo Ibarra asked if the RFP had been released to the members and Ms. Eldridge explained that it had been released and sent to their email addresses. She will verify the date. Joseph Harney, legal advisor for the Police Department, gave his response regarding the request for funding from Abel Alonzo. Mr. Hamey explained that according to the Local Government Code (LGC) and the Attorney General's office, Abel Alonzo would have to abide by the guidelines set in these codes to ensure that the money that Mr. Alonzo would be using could be accounted for. Mr. Hamey explained that it would be up to the board to decide if Mr. Alonzo would get the money that was requested. Mr. Hamey explained that the LGC lists programs that specifically say that Mr. Alonzo would have to provide a report and present it to the board for review. Members felt that they would like to go into a closed session at the next meeting to discuss this item. Joseph Hamey will further research the closed session. Valerie Villarreal requested that she would like to present an annual report at the February meeting. Pat Eldridge explained that the 08-09 budget would be brought to the February meeting for review.
